Anyone ever rupture their plantar fascia?
So I was running on a sore foot Friday night like a stupid ack, and just a 1/2 mile from my house when my left foot popped. I.e., I heard it and felt it. I had to limp home and wondered if I had broken it. There was no sign of bruising and minimal swelling in the arch. After searching the net, my tentative diagnosis was a partially ruptured plantar fascia. This is NOT plantar fasciitis. I've had the latter several times long ago and know those symptoms well. I saw the primary doc today and he concurred with my diagnosis. I'm going to see a sports medicine specialist tomorrow for ultrasonic imaging to see the extent. It feels a lot better today but I am still limping. Looks like the first half of my season is over. Does anyone have any experience with this and can tell me what to expect?

Only speaking from the Ortho Surgeon Nursing stand point though so I'm sure there is way more to it!!
Best of luck and hope you heal up!!!
Question - Whats the cure for plantar faciaitis like? I know that is not the current issue, but you mentioned past experience....
Did they take x-rays?
You will likely need an MRI to see extent of the injury and to show a stress fracture if there is one and or a soft tissue rupture.
@ Carrie - the run streak was not the cause. I wore Newtons in the GA 1/2M 6 days before the rupture. There was nothing flat on that course and I had no recent hill training. I think the 1/2M followed by a hard run 3 days later (Wed) leading to a sore foot Thu, then the rupture Friday. Over the past 4 decades I've had about every running injury, but this was new and I didn't recognize the symptoms. But I plead stupidity for pushing it Friday evening when it was still sore.
I saw the sports MD today and he also confirmed the partial rupture using ultrasonic imaging. An X-ray cannot show this injury. He marked the location of the injury on the computer and printed an image for me. Basically, the image shows the fascia on the left bottom of my foot at a fairly constant thickness, then a gray spot where the thickness drops to about 1/3 the preceding segment. That's the exact location of the tear and the "pop" I heard/felt. No surgery, no cast, no boot. I have a scrip for 4 wks PT then go back to see him. If there is still pain, he will send me for an MRI to rule out a bone fracture although he thinks it is highly unlikely since the ultrasonic image clearly confirmed the rupture. I am cleared to start alternatives like elipticals, rowing, versaclimber, etc as long as I'm not toeing off. Basically, if it hurts don't do it, otherwise press ahead. Full recover generally takes 8 weeks.
Meanwhile, I have caught up on my sleep deficit. I slept 13 hours Friday night, then 11 hours the next night! On the bright side, this should help me clear up all the minor issues I have and really work the core. Since I am now in running jail, I might as well improve my functional strength and emphasize my swimming. I should be able to complete Sweden but won't try to knock it out of the park. And I should be in better shape for next year if I use this time right. There is always a brightside!
Wishing you a fun 8 weeks of getting really strong!!
