Should I race 70.3 in my Hoka One One's?

I have about 50 miles on the Hoka Bondi S2's and think they run well, but I noticed my cadence has come down for low 90 to high 80's in them.  They seem just as fast when running intervals, but long runs the cadence is lower.

Should I race in them this weekend at Oceanside or go back to my tried and true Kinvara 3's?

  • Unless this is your A+++ race of the year, why not give it a go and see what happens.
  • Hmmm. I saw you post in the Hoka thread... not sure if my cadence has dropped in my Bondi 2's or not. Haven't checked, but will do it when I run this weekend. Do you really feel that the difference in cadence has affected performance? Since you said your paces are the same, and you've got 50 miles in them, I'm with Al... why not? You wouldn't ride your road bike when training and then switch over to your tri bike on race day, would you? OK... so maybe that's a stretch. I feel like I sound like JW... ;-)

  • My cadence has stayed relatively the same in the Hoka's. Maybe it dropped a couple of rpm but speed has not been affected, in fact, I have been running faster since I'm not in pain.

I plan on wearing them next weekend for the Texas 70.3.
  • Wear them. Make sure you lace them well...and try not to get them wet! Rip it up!
