"Cold Sculpting" My Way to 6-Pack Abs?!?

I put a little teaser on the dashboard today to see if people were more interested in my race report from Oceanside or the review of my Cold Sculpting from Thursday night before the Saturday race.  It seemed people were interested in both, so I am here to accommodate.  I actually wrote it as two blog posts on my silly little site because it made it easier for me to use and work with both topics.  I hope to get the Race Report up tomorrow.

In the time, you can find my adventures in body modification here.

A side note, I was not sure where to place this in the forums.  I thought medical and then I thought nutrition, but its too weird.  So the Club House seemed the best.  At the end of the day, for me, it was about body composition.  A topic often discussed around here so perhaps a few will find it interesting reading.

Let me know your thoughts!

  • Interesting and cool (or cold!?) and the procedure kind of makes sense. This is a big issue even for those of us of a certain age that are above average active, those damn tri shorts creates that attractive muffin-top look. Freeze it! Can't wait to see the After pics. Of course having it done at a cocktail party might be a bit strange but worth it for that discount.
  • Be thankful you only had to read about it. I got the play-by-play in the front yard, complete with lifted shirt, description of robot sucking at your fat and freezing it...

  • Sounds delicious! too bad you couldn't scoop it out afterwards while it was still slushy and put it in a waffle cone with sprinkles and chocolate!
  • @John wow, um wow. did you think Brinda said wow, YUM wow
  • nip and tuck here and there a little botox ... so cali fer sure.

@ Robert, ya got your face back
  • Nicely played, Dino. Have you notified Ben Greenfield to alert him to the possibilities of this technology?
  • Well this is definitely one of the more interesting things I have read recently.

I formally and fully concede Dino. You really do love gadgets and crazy tech much more than I do.

Also I'm going to need you to adopt me.
  • JUST when I was convinced it was all an April Fool's joke!

I really don't deal well with suspense, btw. I think you should check back in with pics at least every two weeks. Proper documentation of progress and all... ;-)
  • Now if it could only get rid of stretch marks ...

I hear WADA is studying a possible ban on this procedureimage
  • Huh, interesting...

Must be those space boots squeezing all the fat upwards.

  • @Dino-- I have a "real" question? Are there any side effects to this treatment? i.e., is your liver effected from expunging all of that dead body fat? Do you have to take any Adrenal Support or other supplements to promote the "flushing"? Or is that so gradual that it doesn't really matter?
  • John - I was curious about more of the science behind it too, but I didn't get any deeper than the wiki on it

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryolipolysis

"No serious long-lasting side effects were encountered during follow-up time of 6 months.[7] Scarring, ulcerations, or changes in blood lipids or liver functions have not been reported."

However, this is apparently a relatively new technique so there is not a wealth of empirical data on the subject.
  • @Dino-- Any update on your 6-pack abs?
  • I am too late for all this but maybe Dr. AL T can give me an answer. Doesn't the body just find another spot to park the fat? I had read where that was always an issue with Lipo. I went out just now and looked up the process and what some people had to say after getting the procedure. Dino you are a brave man! Several said the brick of fat never went away and now they have this hard node in their stomach. GROSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • @ Withrow - Like I am made of wood! Feel free to swing by the place and check them out. Remember to bring your laundry. It's like a wash board!

@ Ray - I am fearless! I saw in the materials they provided that yes, the fat does go elsewhere. Once those cells are gone, deposits then go to fill other fat cells. Yes, that fat brick was terrible!

In all seriousness, the procedure was no big deal. I had it done last March and I would say the change is very subtle. It's non-surgical and fairly well priced (mine was FREE), but I think good for the subtle result that I got. I would do it again.

My next move is radio sonic body sculpting. My dad just acquired that machine. I am told it is more invasive and hurts for a day or two, but I am game! The results are also supposed to be more pronounced. I just got find the time before the season gets going. My old man said he could do it any night after 7:00 PM. lol....
  • @Dino Radio Sonic sounds like a good name for a rock band

    Or for his next bike...

  • I think I will lose weight the old fashioned way...diet and exercise. It seems the older you get, the more it seems the fat is freaking superglued to your body, but I am skittish about these other methods. My big breakthrough so far this year is weighing daily. Typically, I would only way about a dozen times a year because most of the time I don't want to know.
  • These procedures are very subtle and only work on shaping your body slightly. You lose NO weight. These are not weight loss plans. It just shaves the little fat deposits that are the last to go....
  • @Paul I weigh at least 6 times a day!!!!! Yikes. I really try to after each workout to see how much fluids I have lost yet I am ridiculous about it. Even before bed and in the morning when I first get up. I know I am good for burning off 3 pounds in my sleep. That's it! I will sleep more!
  • Wow. I weigh a couple times a day, but probably no more than twice. I tell people I am like a zoo animal. I need to be monitored....
  • Daily is a break through for me although it will be a couple of months before I see how effective it is. Dino, if those procedures don't help you lose weight then what is the purpose?
  • Pure aesthetic. Nothing else. Just a small part of my struggle to look better topless. image
