rear bottle holder

I need to get a new one and some new bottle cages, anyone have any recommendations for me please?

  • John - I am using the x-labs gorrila cage.  Even after a bike crash my water bottle was still in the cage.  That makes it pretty much launch proof if you ask me.  Only downside is, it's pricy at about $55-$60 new. You might be able to pick up one used on ebay or slowtwitch.
  • I have the Gorilla XT cages with Carbon Sonic for my P2. They grib standard 24oz bottles like crazy if they are the right diameter.. I have one bottle that is loose but I use it to carry my flat kit and hold it in place with a Velcro strap so I don't need an extra bag hanging off my bike.

The only issue I have with the Carbon Sonic wing is in the most aero position it is a pain to get your leg over the seat.  Otherwise no complains on the cages..

  • The other choice is to get some no-name thick metal bottle cages and just bend them a bit to make them tighter. $8-10 apiece and you don't race with them, so who cares. This said, I am using them for storage for when I'm carrying 3 or more bottles. I just pull them once and replace them once...I'm not trying to drink from them and put them back all the time.
  • I use xlab. It is expensive but I rarely launch a bottle...I probably launched 2 or 3 all last year, and all of them were on severe road conditions.
  • What bottles do people use with the X-lab gorrila cages? I have those and my camelbak bottles launch like crazy.
  • I had the same experience with camelback bottles. I switched to the specialized purist bottles and no more launches!
  • The Camelback bottles will launch all the time. You need bottles with a "lip" that the retainer tab on the cage gets into. for example the EN bottles or any of the WTC bottles that you buy at races (or that you can buy post-season on-line for next to nothing!).
