Time for another race tire/tube/wheelcover buy?

Back in ~10 or '11 I organized a group buy on race tires, tubes (latex or butyl but latex best for racing) + wheelcovers for the team. It was very successful and I've repeated the group buy a couple times since.

Time for another? Post up here if you're interested.

  • Yes! Please include superfast tubulars in the inventory.
  • If you can get stuff back in time for Texas (which is probably a tight turn) I'm in for tires/tubes.
  • I'll start to get the ball rolling with Sawiris this week.

Please don't make me read threads on ST and instead tell me what tires I should have him order in addition to Vittoria Open Corsa

DT, tell me tubulars to order, specifically.

  • Do latex tubes come with maximum 51mm valvestems or longer?

  • Depends on the brand.

Given the wide array of wheel depths, I'd suggest going with tubes with removable valve cores so people can put whatever in-line extension needed without going with a crappy screw-over extender.

The Vittoria latex tubes have removable cores standard, and they also seem to be the most common so seems to be pretty safe. They also come in two widths, 19-22mm and like a 25-27mm. Given the size of most people's rims and the nature of latex, the 19-22mm would be a better choice for 99% of people.

  • Could use a wheelcover for a Zipp 404.
  • Yes please!
  • I think Trevor is just experiencing some Tucson Flatapalooza PTSD

  • For tubulars any of these would be great: Veloflex Record; Veloflex Roubaix; Vittoria Evo SC; Vittoria Evo CX in 23 and/or 25; Zipp Tangente but these are just re-branded Vittorias anyway.
  • I'll take a wheelcover for a Mavic Open Pro, 2011 PowerTap, 32 spokes, 700cc wheel size, Black, Shimano 11-28 cassette, and all the goodies that go with it please. And thank you. I'll can order the EN stickers later unless you think it would be a good time for it now.

Belay the order ... I went into research mode last night to get an answer to you (and to avoid watching any more of the news of Boston), and the optimum tire is going to be a Bontrager race x lite.  Which I think are available only through bontrager/trek.

    Thanks for the offer, though.

  • I'd be in for some tubes and some Conti GP4000S tires, which seem to be getting good press on ST these days after the FLO wind tunnel tests.

  • I could be in for some latex tubes and possibly a wheelcover for Zipp 404's standard build (no power meter and not firecrest, the older version) depending on price.

I work for Continental so I get my tires (or tyres depending on where you reside) from my work.
  • times whatever on the Conti 4000S's with latex tubes.

@ Jenniferlyn... do we now have an insider with Continential????

+1!! I'll see what dirtbike tires you guys make. Thanks in advance for the lifetime supply of free tires!!

  • In addition to a wheel cover I would be interested in a price on some tubulars - Vittoria Corsa EVO CX II Tubular Tire.
  • I'm in for a Wheel Disk, Latex Tubes and Conti GP4000S tires
  • I'll try 3 of the Conti GP4000s tires, pref 700X25, and two more latex tubes too!
  • I am interested in the wheel cover. Do I need to do anything else to stay in the loop about when this happens? Thanks!
  • I'm also interested in a wheel cover. Does it make a big difference?
  • Wheelcover for a Zipp 808 with Powertap G3 hub, 20 spoke count, shimano (black aerojacket). Conti GP 4000s, latex tubes...
  • I'm in for Conti 4000S and Latex tubes  700 x 25

    Thanks Coach Rich

  • Due to the time constraints, should I go ahead and order wheel covers from WheelBuilders so I will have them by IMTX?
  • I would be up for the Conti 4000S and latex tubes as well!
  • I'm interested in the Conti 4000s as well.

  • I'm also in for the Conti 4000S and latex tubes.

    Thanks Coach Rich!

  • Folks,

I'll look this up today, circling back with an ordering and invoicing process.

  • interested in a cover and can always pick up a set of 4000s if we are getting a dicsount.
  • I may be too late to this thread, but, if not, I would be interested in Conti 4000S and latex tubes, too. Would love to do a wheelcover, but they won't fit my bike - 2010 S-Works Transition.
