Chain Quick Connectors ???

Bought a new chain and I wanted to install it with quick connectors to removing and cleaning in the future would be easier.  I got 2 different  quick connectors , a wipperman and a KMC , the wipperman seems to lock in place way too easy and comes apart easy as well , the KMC seems very hard to lock into place.

Any bike mechanic guru's can give me some advice?

   Which is better?  Tips?

Things to look out for?

Every hear of one of these coming undone while riding?

  • I am wippermann man. Chain and link. Never had a race problem. Need to make sure the butt shaped part faces to the outside of the chain (just look at the directions).
  • I've never used Wippermann, but I have package of KMC 'missinglink' spares for my SRAM masterlink chains. I have a set of Park Tool MLP-1 master link pliers that I picked up somewhere along the way that makes installing and removing them a synch.

I think it was like 10 bucks for the pliers when I grabbed them, and while I hardly ever use them, they do make life much easier in the rare instances when I do.
  • I use the KMC link and the Park chain link thingamajigger like Trevor.  The Park tool is a life saver, takes about 1.5 seconds to take chain off.  To install I just pull it tight then one stomp on the cranks and it is locked in place.  Never had any problem with the link coming apart.
  • Thanks for schooling me guys!
  • Wippermann no tool needed. Can fix and replace in the field.
  • Thanks robin, I knew nothing about the KMC links before I got them, I think I just got them because they were on amazon.

Once I work my way through those I'll check out the wippermann.
