adding a fall HIM due to clavicle fracture
Rich,
Since I have now missed both of the spring HIMs I had on the schedule (broke my clavicle saturday in RR ride), I want to add a HIM to my season...too much training without enough racing for me. I have my eye ultimately on IM Texas May 2014. That would be my first full, is an EN major race for 2014, I could attend the training camp (I live in San Antonio...a 4hr drive to Woodlands), family could come support me easily, I'm used to heat, it's fairly flat (no "mountains in the "hill country"), etc. Sorry...I digress.
All I have left on the 2013 schedule is an Olympic, which is on July 28 (SUPER HOT) and Austin HIM Oct 27.
What I want to add is the Kerrville HIM on Sept 29. It'll be hot, but good practice for IM Texas (if I have the guts to sign up for it).
I'm a BOP kinda guy, looking to get into top half this year....trying to get under 6hrs for HIM this year. Based on my fitness prior to clavicle fracture, I honestly think I was close to hitting 6hrs.
Feedback on adding the Kerrville HIM Sept 29, and adjustments to my plans? I had two HIMs on the schedule for this spring, and you had me just repeat weeks 16-20 before the second one. Should I just do something like that for the Sept 29 and Oct 27 HIMs?
Off note a bit, do you think IM Texas is a BAD idea for a first full? It's certainly the most convenient for me. I HATE cold too.
Thanks.
Jeff

Hey Jeff,
I don't see a problem with doing that race at all but let's hold off on thinking too much about what changes to make to your plan and when. Take care of yourself and your clavicle, working with your doc, then circle back to me when you know more. Sorry, in my experience it just doesn't serve much purpose to think too much about stuff months and months away, especially when dealing with an injury like yours. In my experience, docs can be all over the map with how they want people to approach the healing process for this fracture. I seen everything from surgery + sling + no activity for week to here's your baby aspirin and here's the door
OK. I'll be patient
Rich,
OK, I've now completely recovered from the clavicle fracture. Been riding for 2-3 weeks now. Swam twice in past week....1000m first, then 2300m earlier this week. No pain or shoulder complaints. I have been doing the run focused plan, in light of the shoulder. I'm on week 4 of 6 currently.
I'd like to get your advice on what plans to do now. I have Austin 70.3 (Oct 27) as my "for sure" A race. Since I missed both of my spring halfs, I'd like to add Kerrville 70.3 on Sept 29, unless you think that's too close to Austin. I plan to do a couple of olympics in the area in July/August, but there are 4 or 5 to choose from and it'll depend on my call schedule as to which ones I'll do. I can make the minor adjustments to fit those in I think. If you need/want more info about me, see the thread (I think I added this to the thread we had running already!)
Thanks for your advice.
Jeff
Rich,
Did the survey redo this past weekend. Looking forward to seeing what you think I should do. The olys are not set in stone.
Jeff
Got it. Thanks! Glad you put me in the GF plan....heard it is really tough and I think that's what I need right now.
