IMSG 2010 week 2 bike thread
Hi SGers!! Week 2, huh?? Time is flying! Uuggh!
Had today off and tried to get in a long ride , was hoping for 4 hours( had the sitter for 4 hours). WELL not so much. Rode with 4 friends and before the start we had some mechanicals and got a late start. Then I had a flat that I fixed poorly. Who knew that a custom tube change of twisting it would cause it not to hold air
.
Anyway, we rode to bike shop, got 3 of the 4 bikes fixed and rode with the time we had left. So 2:25 ride time. Good news was I felt great on my bike. Yesterdays long run had me wake up with sore legs but never felt soreness on the bike. I feel super relaxed in the aero bars and practiced that position most of the ride.

Tom Glynn and I did our 4 hour ride last Thursday with two other friends. He is FAST and I was always in the back just plugging along in my aerobars as he and the others were a dot on the horizon. I felt great and did the best I could. Not quite up to doing those FT intervals but got close to my numbers.
No brick, did not have time.
Then on Saturday Tom and I did the Berkeley Team Time Trial, 16 miles of rollers. He pulled 95% of the time, I hung on for dear life and pulled us up the hills. We were a perfect team. Out of 17 teams in our division we were 4th. Not bad for a couple of triathletes. The ones who beat us were hard core cyclists and we beat some other big time cyclists. We totally shocked ourselves!! Next time, no cell phones in our pockets and aero helmets for sure. Maybe no water bottles either... We'll go all out to win next year

Carrie and I flying along at the Berkeley TT. As Rich would say, I look a little "Fred" like without the race wheels and areo helmet, bottle and other such things. We did have fun though. Think it's time to lose the last spacer!

My Saturday bike ride was interrupted by life. Went to a conference, with my wife, in Gatlinburg, TN. For the first time in months the weather was nice and would have been great for outdoor riding. Since I did not have a bike, I decided to get an 11 mile run in. For anyone who has ever been to Great Smoky Mountain National Park/Gatlinburg, you may be familiar with the road that leads to Cades Cove from Gatlinburg. From the Sugarlands visitor center, it climbs up, up, up for about 4 miles until you reach Laurel Falls trailhead. This was my run and it really woke up my quads.
Sunday was different since I was back home. I rode for 1.5 hours by myself and got in some good intense work (ABP). The next 1.5 hours, I rode with my wife and joked with her that it was my "recovery ride". She just likes to get out and ride, and is not in training for anything in particular. Anytime we get a chance to ride together, I always take it. During this time, there is no worries about my speed or power. Just enjoying the outdoors with my wife.
I did not do all that was scheduled but it was a good weekend.
