Coach R-

I think I asked you about this previously, but I must be a bit slow to understand. You told me to roll from INT JOS to INT GF upon finishing the JOS. I did this, and since you had me ending the GF plan on 5/26 before starting the HIM plan, I am now in week 4... Since last week was a transition week for me (vacation), and this is my first real week doing the GF plan, should I just pick it up in week 4 where it has me? I did a swim test yesterday to begin.

  • Yep, pick it up in Wk4. You'll be fine :-)
  • Coach Rich,

I am about to roll from the GF plan to HIM plan to prep for Vineman 70.3 on July 14 as per your setup for me. I am considering doing an Oly dist race exactly 2 weeks prior to Vineman. I'm confused about timing of race rehearsals since this is my first season with EN, and don't think the RR's are actually scheduled into the HIM plan. Is the Oly a bad idea 2 weeks before my HIM? And, is that when the RR should be? If so, could the Oly count as the RR? Thanks!
  • The RR is scheduled in the plan, 2wks out. Since this is your A race and you are spending $$$ on travel, recommend you don't race and do the RR instead.
  • Coach Rich,

Completed my last major race of the season on Sunday. Only thing I'm "planning" for is a half marathon in Oct and maybe an impromptu sprint next month. Next year I only have IMLP on the calendar, which will be my first full IM. What do you suggest I do in terms of training, training plans, etc for the next few months, aside from eat burgers and drink beer (which is what I've been up to this week)?

Ok, thanks. I'll get that Season Plan done this week.

  • Hey Coach-

You completed my 2014 season plan on Sep 8. I just re-read it and had a concern or two I hoped you could help me with. This year I'll be racing my first full dist IM in Lake Placid. I feel very good about it from a mental standpoint, but obviously I want to make sure that I'm prepared for the distance. I am a bit concerned that you have me going into the IM plan in the beginning of May as opposed to earlier. I am also racing Rev 3 Quassy and I signed up for IMLP training camp in June. I don't think I've ever ridden more than 65 miles max, so I want to make sure I have enough long sessions under my belt going into the camp and the IM itself. Do you think that I am ok how you have things set up or that I should forgo the HIM plan and be working towards my main goal this year - IMLP? I know that there is sufficient time between Quassy and Placid, but I really don't feel the need to race Quassy as an 'A' race - I'm ok treating it more of a tough training day if that makes more sense. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks very much!

See your season plan below. With 7wks of the GF plan and 4wks of the HIM plan before you start the IM plan you absolutely are training more than 12wks for IMLP. I'm justing using those plans to trick you into thinking that you aren't training for an IM. Instead, I'm making you stupid fast for months and months before you put your IM hat on. No worries, you'll be ready.

  • Coach- just watched your video for week 12 of the OS, which Is where I am currently. You spoke about ending the OS and either moving to GF or a single sport focus. This got me thinking, which is sometimes dangerousimage You have me doing the 2 week swim camp after the OS and then moving to the GF plan. I am a MOP swimmer, MOP bike (w/kg is currently 2.95) and my run is what I'd call better than average (VDOT 49). That being said, in your opinion, would I be better served doing a bike focus vs gf plan? I was thinking that from a ROI view, I have the most to gain from bike improvement, right? And if so, would I lose too much on my run and not getting enough swimming in prior to Quassy and IMLP? Interested on your thoughts here. Thanks!

Brad, I need you in the GF plan because I need to start prep'ing you for Quassy. And I have you doing Swim Camp because I want you to get in a couple weeks of drill swimming before the GF plan, which does include swimming.
