@pmccrann: Hills aren't the enemy.

@pmccrann: Hills aren't the enemy. They are an opportunity to run with great form. #workworks
Just Picked up this tweet by Coach P and wonder ... Asside from form, what's the equivalent to "watts" while running hills?
HR?? Perceived effort? I haven't quite figured out how pace "ideally" on hills!!

Comments

  • HR usually works, but it lags by 10-30 sec. I use RPE, and cadence, making my steps shorter but just as quick, for me that'95 these days.
  • hills bring out the concrete blocks in my shoes.

    hills probably are my enemy.

    [working on the perspective change]
  • I see it as "hill repeats" are speed work in disguise.

    x2 - Hills as a workout are great... the only time they suck is late in a long run...

  • +1 speedwork, also easier on the body (less pounding) and moderate use of aggressive downhill running can really improve your durability...but you gotta be careful. See moderate above.

  • Hills build resilience for the last few miles of racing and help with managing the suffering... for me!

  • I look at hills on the run on race day and don't say "@#$%#^#^%&$%#&@^$%!!!!!!!" anymore. I say "time to get my form back on track" -- baby steps, good posture, etc. Then I try to maintain that as long as I can....
