Long Bike Thread for week of April 29

Looks like the first week we had some really good riding. Lets keep sharing how it is going now that almost all of us are outside. Should be interesting to see how everyone is feeling coming off the trainers. Like Coach R said....they love April in the haus.

  • Today I finished my 5-days BBW with a real epic ride!

I chose a route with 2 steep hills and 2 really looooong hills at about 2-3% of incline. I hold myself back for the first hour and then started to build up power slowly. To get to the first (epic) hill it took me 3h and I didn't knew what was waiting for me there ...
Well after I've seen a "15% incline" traffic sign I knew that would become really BAD - and it was even WORSE ... my Edge 500 showed me a maximum incline of 18% and my power was somewhere above 120% image
Thank god it only took 20min to climb up to the lake and from there only another 140m of climbing was between me and the most awesome downhill I've done ever (on the road)!!
Up next was the second long incline which I just hammered through with approx 80% knowing that the end is near image
On the final hill which was a climb of 24min @ 296W NP I just tried to ride hard and steady knowing that there's nothing more to come 2day.

Again some overal metrics for this ride:
    Total Time: 5:25:56
    Moving Time: 5:12:44
    Distance: 166.87 km
    Energy: 4334 kJ
    TSS: 306 (0.77)
    NP: 245
    VI: 1.06
    Gain: 2209m

  • @Steffan...WOW...great way to finish BBW....I've got one coming next week....4 days @ BRP with a few other ENer's...lots of climbing image
  • @Jeff - I was a little bit afraid before I started my BBW as I never did something similar before ever.
Now that it's over I can tell that I really liked it but it would be better to execute it when you don't have to work on 2 days ... well now I know image

    Here's my short BBW Summary
    5 Days
20h in the saddle riding 645km burned 16.000 kCal
    7000hm(30000ft) of climbing
Ate over 15 PowerBar Engergize Bars and had a few beers after my last ride during bike-cleaning! image
  • A little late to the party but I've been suffering with a sinus infection for days and today was the first full day feeling well enough to get out.

Sunny and in the mid 60's, clear sky and no humidity. Only get a few days like this one so it was nice to get out and bike. Didn't want to crush myself since I am just getting over something. Planned to bike between 75% and 80% mostly and try not to spike on the hills.

Total ride 4:14 @ 0.76 for 74.8 miles, 2600' ascent. Last few miles were a killer - like almost not getting home bad. Was only my 2nd long ride this year and longest since last summer, so no surprise I started to fade hard near the end.

Carried 750 cal of infinite in my 40oz Speedfill brick plus 48oz H2O. Had to stop midway and refill my water. Pleased to say my weight was exactly the same on return as my AM weigh-in after consuming 128 oz on the bike.

Great ride, bike felt awesome until my right knee started to ache. Only when I sat up or readjusted on the seat while in the bars. Hard to figure why it happened. Never had knee issues before and the only change was a 5mm seat adjust (up) which made holding the aero position much more comfortable.
