newbie garmin500 question

I have been using my power tap and garmin 500 on outdoor rides - the lap function automatically goes off (I don't press the lap function).  This does not happen on indoor training rides.  Is there a setting I am missing?

  • I think the autolap function can be set for time or distance.  So maybe you have it set for a specific distance that is only being measured with the gps?  It is accessed under settings>bike settings>autolap.

  • will check it out - thanks!
  • I agree with Satich. Are you using a cadence/speed monitor? With on of those you can get distance inside as well without GPS.....
  • I think Satish is correct. You can also solve that problem by buying an ANT+ Speed/Cadence sensor. This will use a magnet on the wheel and known wheel circumference to calculate your speed/distance. But I don't know why you would buy a $40 sensor to clutter up your bike unless you wanted to be much more precise with your cadence for some reason.
  • Thanks all - I am not using a cadence/speed monitor - I agree I need to check the settings on the garmin.
