Bob I's Micro Thread

Coach P - need some help modifying my standard week.  I find it difficult to get a consistent workout on Sunday between family committements and my 62 year old body just needing some rest, so the ABP Sunday ride often gets skipped.  I saw on my intermediate IM plan, that the run on Monday is one we can skip if we need rest.  What I did this week is move the ABP bike to Monday instead of that run - can't get in a consistent 2-3 hours on Monday, but I can get 1.5-2 hours.  Does that make sense?  Would I add anything to the Saturday ride to make up for shortening the ABP ride?   Thanks

  • Bob, resting more to perform better is fine by me!! I think that skipping Sunday is okay but that you might be able to do the weekend if you take Friday off? Thoughts? Pushing the ABP session to Monday means stacking four solids days vs three.... You might hear differently from others but that's my $.02
  • Taking Friday off instead won't really work. A lot of family stuff on Sunday as well as me needing a little rest. I don't have nearly that many SAU's. But I see what you mean. Listened to the early season fatigue podcast a couple of days ago, and I'm starting to feel it after going from OS Plan to IM plan. If Sunday needs to be my day off, any other suggestions on how to move things around. I've tried different things over the last 3 seasons and never really found a good answer. So my ABP bike was very inconsistent.
  • @Bob, if you are taking Sunday off then ABP on Monday is okay for sure..that means sacrificing a swim (Monday) but 4 out of 5 Coach P's approve! image
  • Coach P - this seems to be working out well - still do a short swim on Monday with drills and 10-15x50 fast.

Another question - my schedule got all moved around this week. Field trip with school thursday, and the grandchildred on saturday. I made a deal that I can ride this week on Sunday. I'm in week 11 of the Int IM plan. So, I was thinking - still do the ftp bike today, long run friday, saturday off, then the long day workouts on sunday. maybe also do a swim on Friday. I know I don't want to give up either the long run or the long day. Sound good, or should I do something different today (I did the tempo run yesterday)? Thanks
  • Bob, sounds great...just remember you might have to swim only on next monday to make sure you absorb the training you have done....
  • Coach P - my last race of the season is HIM 3 weeks from tomorrow. Came down with something that's had me out of commission most of the week. Did my ABP ride on Monday (I almost always take Sunday off) and my Monday swim. Since then I haven't been able to do anything. Will miss my RR swim and FTP test. Probably won't be able to get a quality ride over the weekend either based on how I feel today. What should I do in the next 3 weeks - following the plan is probably not the right answer.' Thanks
  • Bob, planning at the end of a long season is really really tricky. What works early doesn't work late...I agree a regular plan won't cut the mustard here. Shut things down for the weekend. Next week is just getting back on track....one workout in each discipline. Priority is just easy running over the other stuff. Your goal is to be back on next weekend for the final RR. Your fitness is there, so it's the health that's a concern.

So forget the plan for now and focus instead on the recovery. Sleep, hydration, etc...that matters more than the workout!
