Garmin Edge 510 - Software Update

Last night on the EN Community page I posted that an update to the Garmin Edge 510 software was available. A key item for me was that the update was to fix the Power Fluctuation that rendered the 510 useless for training with Power.

I downloaded the SW last night and tested it this morning and it worked great. I have to say that I quickly forgot there was ever a problem. The Power numbers were solid. I really like the Edge 510 but could never really enjoy it because the Power numbers were never even close to right. Here is a list of the other fixes:

Changes made from version 2.30 to 2.50:

Improved power data recording.

Fixed issue causing the device to not reconnect to ANT

sensors after losing connection.

Added support for heart rate graph data field.

Added Training Plans support.

Improved elevation recording.

Improved elevation page visibility.

Fixed 30 second vertical speed average data field.

Fixed issue with phone connections.

Improved compass page.

Updated power zone defaults and added functionality to

reset to default values.

Restricted a software update from taking place if the

battery is below 10% capacity.

Added press and hold shortcuts to bike and activity

profiles from the home screen.

Added weather icon to Connections page.

Made numerous UI improvements.

  • Would you then recommend the 510 over the 500 at this point. I have the 500, but have run into a mild issue with some of the buttons not responding on occasion. I was thinking of getting the 510 once the power fluctuation was fixed.
  • The new software that was released on April 30 fixes the single major issue with the Garmin Edge 510. I've tested my 510 with the updates several times now and there is no longer any Power Fluctuation. It's Solid!
@Ken, I never owned the 500 so I can't compare. But others have and like some of the new features like Live Tracking and Workout Uploads that happen as soon as you finish. See this EN post for more:
