When A race is a Saturday vs Sunday

My A race is a Saturday, and in Europe which really means Friday evening on my real life schedule. I have figured out how I will address race week given the travel and such. However, I am wondering whether there is any merit in moving the weeknd before Saturday bike to like Friday.

Any thoughts/experience out there?

  • I've got an A race this coming Saturday. What I did was skip the rest day in my plan which had been written in for last Sunday, and moved everything forward one day for the final week.
  • My IM in Kalmar this summer is a Saturday race. That really doesn't impact my plan much. This year I'm going to follow a 1 week drop-taper instead of a graduated 3 week taper. I.e., I will not reduce my training schedule too much until that last week when it's going to basically fall off the map. I did that once accidentally and it went well. So the Saturday before will be a moderate distance ride + swim + run. Sunday I'll bike-swim-run short amounts and then catch a mid-afternoon flight leaving for Copenhagen and I will do very, very little Mon through Fri. Just some jogging Mon-Wed, and short bike rides + swims on Thu/Fri.
