Urgent - need help running hills!

Just showed up my half iron race site and it has serious hills. I live at the beach and only train on super flats. I know how to use power meter to "flatten" hills. But how do I pace the run? It is equal parts uphill and downhill.

  • I just finished St George 70.3, which presents the same dilemma -you are either running up or down, NEVER flat. Besides RPE, I ran purely by HR. My pace varied between 6:30 and 10:30, but my HR stayed very constant between 136-142, which defines the range from mid-point MP to midpoint HMP for me. Oh, and I kept my cadence at 90 the whole way, up,or down. This meant I was taking mincing little steps going up and was flying down hills, but it worked the same as pace does on flat ground.
  • Awesome. Thanks for the last minute advice Al. Congrats on IMSG.
