4th of July BTW

4th of July falls on a Thursday this year. And for most of us Americans, that means we get the day off (my apologies to those of you that don't, as well as other teammates worldwide).

The following month I've got IMMT (8/18), so my buddies and I are starting to plan a Big Tri Weekend.

Here's my initial idea/outline:

Thu: 65 mile "holiday" ride, that my local tri team does every holiday, followed by a short 15-20 minute transition run.

Fri: Long-ish (probably 1.25-1.75 hours) run in the morning. OWS in the afternoon.

Sat: 80-100 mile ride, followed by a 45-60 minute brick run.

Sun: Long (2-2.5 hours) run in the morning. OWS in the afternoon.

Please keep in mind, that this is Texas, and even though the weather has been abnormally cool here, I expect it to be boiling hot by the 4th (which for me personally means my run will suffer the worst).

  • If your in Texas you better be flying the flag on on July 4th.

    OWS = swim ?

    If so why are you swimming last?
  • Sounds fun! My notes:
    -The quality of the Sunday long run will definitely be impaired by the volume of the last few days. I'd just bag it. Or do it Wed night, with the expectation that it will compromise the days ahead. Or, just do the main set (up to about 90',) and trim off the EP.
    -my preferred long weekend big pattern:
    T=100 miles bike; swim or run 30-60'
    F=100 miles; swim or run 30-60'
    S=3h ep bike
    S=100 miles, swim or run 30-60'
