Jodi's questions

Rich, I'm coming off a half ironman yesterday (bad weather turned it into a wet and wild duathlon, race report will be next) and as you had told me earlier, I am planning a few days off. I have downloaded my beginner Ironman plan that ends at Lake Placid, so I am in week 9. Next week is week 10 and Monday says optional big tri week. I am going to be out of town visiting my son in Annapolis, MD from Thursday of week 10 thru Tuesday of week 11. We are driving so two whole days are crushed. I could take the bike but the fam won't be happy with me. I can run ALOT. Should I come off week nine's Saturday and Sunday rides, and try to do week ten's Saturday and Sunday rides before we leave on Tuesday and Wednesday? I know that's probably not realistic for me...and it even sounds dumb typing it, so help...!     Jodi

  • Jodi,
The BTW is optional that week. Sounds like you have a lot going on so just get through your travels, running as much as possible, and we can pick up the where/if/when to BTW conversation when you get back.
  • Ok, but I am a bit confused. The week is written as a big training week, so how to I dial it down? Its week 10 of beginner ironman plan.
  • The week itself is "normal," ie, no big volume schedule. The note you're seeing is that doing this week as a BTW is optional and if you want to do that, go here to read about what changes to make to your plan.

But, again, it's optional. If you don't want to / can't do this, then just follow the plan as written.

  • I have a RR swim planned for next Friday the 5th of July. I actually have access to open water on Tuesdays with the hubby on a paddleboard for safety. On the 5th I am afraid the boats will be out at swim time. I hit the water about 6:45 am. it takes me almost 2 hours. If I move my RR swim to Tuesday, do I have to move my Wednesday bike test? I really need this swim as I have yet to make the distance.
  • Jodi,

Yes, do the OWS and then see how you feel. You may not need to roll the bike test.
  • Coach R, For IMLP, I will be driving and camping on the way from Georgia. Leaving Tues am. Bike will be buried somewhere in my Honda Element. What should I do Tues, Wed? Thursday I plan to ride in LP and Friday swim. Jodi

Ride per the plan on Monday (if we have a ride for that Monday, don't recall). If not, do your ride for this week on Monday.

Tues and Wed: don't worry about it. More important that you get frequent walks while driving.

FWIW, I drove up and back, solo, to IMCDA'08, ~1300 miles each way. The drive back SUUUCCCKKKEED!!! Buy some good compression tights for the drive back.

  • Coach Rich, I am in a post IMLP slump, mainly mental because I can't sign up for another long tri for a while...probably 2 years. So in order to avoid going crazy and getting fat, I'd like to switch to some long trail runs. I haven't done anything on my transition plan as I had a lot on my plate when I got home and truthfully I really hate swimming. So, I'd really like to stay with EN. Will the GF run plan work for me? Also, I need help with using my Power meter more effectively. Do you suggest that I buy the webinar? Do you ever do a PM clinic?

Yes, the GF plan is a great general solution. We also have plans to add a single sport section and training plans to EN, for folks who are just running or cycling.

Yes, the Power Webinar is a GREAT resource and we have tons of other stuff in the Cycling/Power section of the wiki

  • Ok, thanks. I am ready to chose a plan. I am guessing the marathon plan, maybe intermediate. I want to ride at least one day a week though, and I don't want to swim. I have two trail runs picked out. One is a marathon in 9 weeks (but I can opt for a 12 miler instead) and the other is a 50 K in 15 weeks (but I can opt for the 30K). Do I just switch my plan or do I go thru the season planning survey?

I don't think there's a need to fill in the survey, I think you're square. Just think about joining us for the November OS, which will start on Oct 28th, when you're planning these events. And like I said, we should have a variety of run only plans in the site soon.
