Adjusting runs for full IM Int plan

Hey Coach P,

Starting to get in the groove of the full IM plan, but I know my body and I don't think keeping to the prescribed  run schedule within the plan will be a good idea for me - my joints (esp knees) tend to go downhill fast with that frequency and volume of running.

Right now it looks like the average week has 5 runs:

Mon: 1hr Swim + Short Run

Tues: 1hr Swim + Med Run

Wed: FTP Bike

Thurs: Long Run

Fri: 1hr Swim + Short Run

Sat: Long Bike + Short/Med Run

Sun: ABP Bike

I was thinking of dropping the Mon AND Fri runs (that's how concerned I am about the frequency), leaving just the Tues/Thurs/Sat run sessions. So basically dropping those two less intense run sessions and keeping the more critical ones. Do you feel like that will put me behind significantly? Keep in mind I did run Boston, which is part of the reason for making this move. Maybe I could alternate weeks of doing 3 runs and 4-5 runs?

  • How about dropping the Monday run first, see how that goes, and then make the call on if you need to drop Friday also>
  • Thanks Coach Rich, I'll give that a go. If I do feel like it's too much, I'll post again to see if I should adjust anything else to compensate.
