Breathing Technique - BreathPlay

In the video from tonight's chat, Coach P was discussing the NC Blue Ridge Parkway rides in the mountains. He mentioned the importance of focusing on breathing *out* to ensue that all the CO2 exits and that inhalation would naturally occur. This reminded me of an article I read last year about a breathing technique called BreathPlay. It's about establishing a rhythm that pushes air out more "beats" than are used to take air in. The studies showed that BreathPlay significantly increased endurance and improved aerobic capacity.

I've used it more in running than biking because the rhythm is easier for me to establish.
Anyone heard of this/used it? What do you think?

  • Jim - That was a great article -- thanks. I have heard of something like this before --- from a guy named Vince Palko -- but that was mostly for running. I will be giving this a try on my next bike.
    Thx,
