Hi coach it's me again ... a lonesome Austrian far away from home here in sunny California image

My planned departure date has just been shifted by one week from IM-plan-week 16 to 17.

I don't have exact dates right now but I expect the leave on Thursday in the evening so I could basically sqeeze in the long run on that day image

Do you have special advices on how to handle the last long weekend rides as I expect to be a little jet-lagged ...

Final RR shouldn't be problem as I expect one full week is plenty of time to recover my jet-lag until.

When in doubt which workouts should I drop first - the short high-intensity or the long ones?

See how you feel the day of the workout and make the call then. If you need to, you could always swap Sunday and Saturday, giving your body more time to adjust and be ready for the longer ride.

    When is Austria?

  • IMAT is on 30.06 so just a few weeks later!
To me it doesn't sound like a brilliant idea to do that olympic that close to my A-Race even if it's free of charge and right in front of my door ...
  • Coach I need some advice again!

Due to me postponed travel schedule I just realized I would have to do my last bike-test still here in CA.
Till now I did all my tests indoors on the trainer but I guess this one should be done as if it's a real (of course outdoor) TT (so in Aerobars at all times) correct?

I'm also wondering if the result will be useable as I'm now at almost sea-level and will travel back to more then 500m of altitude.

thx 4 all inputs in advance
  • Not a problem to wait to do test when you are home. Test should be outside. FYI, 500m is a non issue, altitude-wise
  • OK great thx - so I'll replace the test with just another standard Wednesday FTP (2x20 or 8/12/20) session and do test at home.

One other thing which fits in here perfectly - as my prev. planned B-Race has been canceled I've signed up to IM 70.3 Salzburg on the 1st of September so there are 2 months between IMAT and this race.
During July I will again be in Fremont for another 4 weeks on business trip and I guess there will be a lot more todo that time.

Any suggestions how I should structure my recovery from IMAT vs training for IM70.3?
  • Lets get you to IMAT and then talk afterwards. Just not worth thinking about it too much right now
  • Coach - it's me again image

Now that IMAT is in the books I'd need a rough plan how I should proceed looking forward to IM70.3 Zell am See on the 1st of September.
Again I'm having some special things to concider as I'm on a business trip in Fremont/CA again from 8/7 unitl 31/7.
I know that swimming and running there is no issue but I'll most likely not having my bike with me this time since the shipping is quiet expensive (300USD for both directions without insurance).

  • Stefan,

First of all, congrats on your race! Looking forward to the race report!

So you won't have a bike at all? Can't rent/borrow one? Maybe you can ping the team to see if anyone is close to you?

  • THX - I'm still cleaning up the mess I left the last 2-3 days before the race image Hope I can finish my race report by end of this week because I really had some wired stomach troubles ... but that's not the right point to discuss about this right now.

Well I'm pretty sure I can rent a bike and I also have one friend there who would borrow me his bike if he's not using it but I won't have a PM for sure ... so I can just ride by RPE (not saying this is less efficient).

Maybe I should also mention my goals for this race - I know that this is probably the fastest 70.3 course on the planet my main goal is to set a new PR there (actual 4:39.xx) ... nice to have would be a sub 4:30:00

  • Notes:

    • Give yourself a couple week post-IM recovery
    • Backplanning from that half IM, you'll want to drop into the HIM plan when you're about 6-8wks out.
    • Up until that date, do the Get Faster plan, probably skipping wks 1 and 8, as those are testing weeks and you probably don't "need" to test. For example, do wks 2-7 of the GF plan.

    Good luck!

  • Coach I'm back ONLINE image
Looks like I've successfully overcome the "Post-IM-Training-Depression" and dropped directly into the HIM Adv.plan - week 14 right now (B-Race is on 9/1/2013)

Now I wanted to know if you would agree that an olympic distance race one week before my B-Race (70.3) would be a quiet good final "workout"?
  • Yes, doing an Oly the week before a B-race HIM is fine. Before an A-race HIM = no.
  • Hmmm how do I know exactly if my HIM is an 'A' or 'B' style ... because basically I really wan't to CRUSH it there so

For me, a B-race is on the calendar before an AAA race, and therefore I want to the B-race to have minimal impact on my AAA-race training, so I don't want to taper for it...but I do want to rest enough for the B-race that I don't complete blow my registration fee because I'm too shelled to go faster
