Season Plan - Target Time Advise

Hello...am new to EN and in my second week of training.  More then likely a simple question however how can I make sure I am using the training plan to target a specific finish time?  I am expecting that someone who is shooting for a sub 12 hour finish in the IM is going to train differently to someone who is sub 15...or someone who just wants to finish?

I would like to target to finish 12-13 hours....and just want to make sure I am using the plan correctly to make my goals.

Can you please advise?

Thanks!

  • Plan abilities are a function of demonstrated race PR's, which are then an measurement of your fitness/ability to handle work, etc vs the time you want. Otherwise all EN athletes would set themselves up with the Advanced plans :-)
  • So tell me what your race PRs are and I can advise you
  • Thanks Rich - My A race this summer is IM Madison....and will be my first one so do not yet have a benchmark at that distance. Longest tri I have completed is the 70.3, with a PB of 6:06. Per segment within the 70.3 distance, PB is swim = 38 min; Bike 3:02, Run 2:14. This was without a training plan, and used no nutrition. PB marathon (not tri) is 4:10.

If possible...would like to shoot for a sub 13 hour IM. Doable?

I think most of my work needs to be on the bike in terms of area of improvement so want to make sure I put the emphasis there to help with overall time.

    Appreciate thoughts!
  • Hello Rich - Any thoughts?

    Thanks.
  • You fit the Intermediate profile.

Regarding a doable time, that's a dangerous and unproductive way to think. Instead:

    1. Use the plans, resources, and feedback from the team to become very fit and smart.
    2. Use the same to learn how to execute an Ironman. This is especially important with Wisconsin
    3. Fitness + Execution Skills = Race Time.

That is, focus on the basics and let the day take care of itself.

  • Hello Rich - Fair enough and makes sense...will do so! :-)
