Training question

Hello Fellow Quassy Racers!

I'm looking at the training schedule for the next two weeks & I'm trying to figure out what & how to adjust.  I was going to do the big race day on Saturday, May 25th.  But I'm assuming that we don't do the bike & run tests on week 12 due to the race.  How much tapering are you doing?   I'm assuming that many of us are also doing Lake Placid.  This will be my first ironman so I'm quite anxious about doing the right things.  Just wondering.

  • I would say it depends on what priority you have given Quassy. That will dictate your taper. You should probably post this in the Micro Forum and get Coach P's input....
  • Bridget - see the self coaching guide in the wiki (http://members.endurancenation.us/Resources/Wiki/tabid/91/Default.aspx?topic=Self-Coaching+Manual+-+DIY+Guide+for+Adjusting+You). There is guidance in there on how to insert a HIM race into a training plan. The taper depends on if it is an A, B, or C race for you. Also guidelines on how to recover following the race and get back with the plan by the following weekend.
  • Bridget,

I'm late to the party.... But I wanted to give you my 2cents and get you pumped up. I've seen you and Don race. Your animals and no stranger to pain. This will pay off huge on HIM's and under but could hurt you at the IM distance if you don't harness that power correctly. I have a feeling when the gun goes off in Quassy your going to give it your all no matter what. I see with your big training day last weekend you decided to train thru. Thats what I would have voted for , just easing up a bit this week on volume and intensity (maybe25%). Race hard which I know you will. Recover hard a couple days. Ease back into it. Back on track the following weekend. Then you have 8 weeks to focus on Far on top of Fast (you guys are already fast and not gonna get faster between now and IMLP, just wanna nail down that sustainable power and pace) , really focus on your data , nutrition , Race Rehearsals , taper , and most importantly the 4 Keys execution , execution , execution! Probably won't see you at Quassy since I'm doing the OLY and taking off pretty quick , but I'll be following your Quassy and then IMLP journey!

    Good Skill Tim,
  • Tim - Thanks so much for the vote of confidence.  I am worried about pacing & nutrition.  I'm going to focus on the long weekend rides to keep that constant pace.  Also I'll try that at Quassy this weekend.  During a half, I usually hit the bike hard and then follow it up with a run that blows up.  Also the heat will be a challenge for me.  If Quassy goes well, then that will help my game plan for LP.  Don & I are coming down tonight so we'll be at the Olympic race.  Hopefully we see you to cheer you on to another victory.
