When to put on Arm Coolers?

I posted this same question to an old thread that probably didn't get read.

If the swim is NOT wetsuit-legal, when do you put on the arm coolers? In T1? Is it hard to get them on when wet from the swim? Thanks

  • If the weather is warm enough for the water to be non-wetsuit legal, I probably wouldn't be wearing something on my arms, but here is my thought: roll (or bunch) them up, put them on in T1 like a wrist band, wait for your arms to dry off, then pull them up all the way. The arms will be cooling during this process, so no need to pull them up until the arms get dry. But be quick, before they start to sweat?

  • I've used them in wetsuit legal and no-wetsuit races. I put them on after the swim. The trick is to roll them up very skinny put a bit of powder in, and position them just right way inside your bike shoes. They'll go on fairly quickly and look like white wrist bands, then, when you have a free minute on the bike, you can roll them up your arms to their proper form. Try it in a non-race situation first to get comfortable.
