goals: PR at CDA
race resume: World Q'r all distances, 2008 Kona Q'r
Advice: listen to EN, i smiled in April 08 at mile 18 in 95 degree heat, cuz i listened to a free course talk and paced correctly!
Work vs. talent.....work usually wins.
Goals: 10:30, top 10 age group finish
Race Resume: qualified and competed in 2008 ITU World Long Course Championship (Holland) and 2009 Ironman 70.3 World Championship (Clearwater)
IMCDA will be 2nd Ironman - completed rookie effort at 2008 IMFL in 10:33. Qualifying for Kona is definitely on my radar if I have a great day and am lucky.
Goals: 1) finish, 2) enjoy the day, 3) PR
Race Resume: IMWI 2006 (14:30) and 2009 (12:54), 20+ halfIM/olympic/sprint events
GOALS: 1) Finish with a smile on my face (within 17 hrs); 2) Revel in this incredible accomplishment
Resume: Sprint Tri 6/2009; Oly Tri 7/2009; Portland Marathon 10/2009 (4:27).
Name: Wendy (a/k/a WendyLooWho)
Age: 48
Location: Norcross, GA, suburb of Atlanta
Goals: Finish with a BIG smile and have fun! Bonus if that happens in under 15 hours.
I have been out to Coeur d'Alene twice to vacation and cheer friends racing. I grew up in Northwest Montana so going to CDA feels sort of like going home.
Race resume: Started triathlon back in 2004. First race was St. Anthony’s Triathlon with Team in Training. I had lost my sister to leukemia a year earlier. Finishing St. A's was a very emotional experience for me. Since then I have completed 15-20 sprints/olys, seven half IMs, tons of 5 & 10ks, half marathons and organized rides. Like many of you, I have an embarassing number of never worn race t-shirts and medals collecting dust. Anyway, CDA will be my second attempt at IM. First was Moo in ‘07. I nearly froze to death on the cold, wet bike course, missed the time cutoff and was very disappointed in myself. This year it is about redemption!
Matt Samojeden 54 in the 50-54 age group.
Tom Nelson, 40 years old, San Diego, CA, Navy General Surgeon
First IM distance event
Goals:
Finish with good execution

Cali 70.3 2009, San Diego Intl, Carlsbad Triathlon (3rd in Clydesdale Div), Magic Mountain Man half distance, signed up for Cali 70.3 (2010), Only Marathon: 1993 Chicago (4:3X)

December Out-Season
Goals for IMCDA: Finish! Get past the swim and enjoy the day.
Race resume: I was a rower in college and have been a long-time runner. Last year was my first triathlon season; I completed a few sprints and also did Lake Stevens 70.3 and Longhorn 70.3. I've been a volunteer captain at IMCDA for the last three years and have one year hiatus from that position to race this year...figured it was finally time to try it myself! IMCDA will be my first full Ironman.
I am still very new to triathlon and in my prior races, I didn't have a very focused training plan. The out-season has definitely been a great tool and I hope I am pushing myself as much as everyone else! (Hopefully anyway!) I want to be sure to do this right and follow a training plan that will prepare you to be successful and complete your race...so that is why I joined the EN party.
Age: 35
Location: Santa Clara, California
Goal: 11:30 as <1:20 swim, <6 h bike, <4 h run, <10 minutes total in transition. <br /> January OS, moving to HalfIron on March 1. Lucky enough to have good weather so I can increase volume.
Race Resume: 3 time Ironman, PR 13:15 after walking over 10 miles. Ironman Arizona, Vineman (half), Big Kauna (half), Escape from Alcatraz all several times, and lots of sprints around the Bay Area.
Age: 39
Location: Denver, CO
November OS
Overall Goal: Finish with a smile, and show my 3 girls what all the hard work was geared towards.
Personal Goal: <1:35 swim (I hate the swim and just hope to survive), <5:45 bike,
This will be my first IM distance tri and I look forward to executing my race plan to the fullest.
Al Truscott
Racing age 61; never ran a step until I was 50.
This will be Ironman # 17; I've done all 7 IMs run at CdA, along with 2 x each @ AZ, Canada, and Kona.
Goals - Jeez, yeah, I've got to get some goals for this race. I've won my AG there twice, and set the course record for my AG there last year, so that sets the bar kind of high for me. This time around, what I've got so far is: try to beat the Boston Qualifying standard (4:00:59) for the marathon during the IM. If I do my usual 70 minute swim and can get under 6 hours on the bike, then ... that's a PR on this course for me!
Bryan B. Ogle, 43, living in Santa Monica.
5th IM (4 in cda, 1 in canada) Hoping to get in low 10:40 range this year. 2nd IM while in da haus! Will be there for work (k-swiss) and to race. My family is still there and will moving down right before race. I organized Team Dinner etc last year. CDA is an awesome race and the crowds are fantastic.
Live in SoCal now, but just moved from CDA so if you need something or have questions just ask. Will help with logistics if you need be. I know who to call.
Looking forward to getting to know you all a bit better!!

IM #4 for me, 3rd with EN - IMLP 2007 & 2009, IMFL 2008.
Goals: At IMFL I had the perfect race for me and had a 1:2x PR after training with EN for 1 year. With 4 young kids, a heavy commute, and lots of travel for work, I'm not hung up on hitting a huge PR anymore. That said, I'm targetting a sub 12hr time. For me to do that, I'm going to have to be running as well off the bike as I did in Florida 2 years ago. For that I'm going to have to have my nutrition plan nailed down (big FAIL at IMLP in 2009) and my weight in check (it's been a very prosperous winter!).
Never done a Triathlon of any distance before. Doing IM 70.3 Oceanside in 3 weeks.
Joined EN in December.
I'll say I want to just finish, but I'd really hate to have to be out there for 16 hours (I expect 14 hours or so,maybe faster)
I will be at Oceanside, too. Maybe I'll bump into you (I just hope it isn't during the swim).
Mike and Pete-
I will be at O'side and IMCDA too.
Tom
@mike - I just want to survive the swim... Based on my wave start, I have almost 2 hours to finish ;-)
Dallas Texas
1st IM
EN noob
Goal: Finish with a grin!
Two kids, boys 5 and 3 wife is training also she did CDA last year.
Enjoying this journey
Disregard.
Name: Bart Bybee
Age: 48
Location: Southlake, Texas
Goal: 11:00
6th Ironman, Second time at CDA although first time was on old bike course in 2005
New to EN
Age 55, please just let me get to the start line, much less the finish. This will be my fourth IM. Two Florida's, and Kona in 2003 as a lottery slot - finished in 17:02, talk about soul crushing - if only I didn't stop and cry for 20 minutes....
I'm trying to redeem that day and close out my IM crack habit so I can have a life again.
I'm really good at signing up for races, not so good at execution. Also got my hubby into this, he'll be racing too. 16 weeks to go, I'm going to need all the support I can get.
Age: 53
1st IM and it so happens to be in the town I grew up in. Learned to swim at the same spot we start the race. Lived and worked along the course before it was the course.
Goal: To have fun, kick butt (my own), and to count the road kills after mile 18.....old Hood to Coast Relay thing.
New to EN and looking forward in getting all of us together.
Let me know and I will get the team dinner together for IMCDA. Will have to move venues from where we did last year, but will still be great!
Glad to have Bryan on board because he is a LOCAL!! Even though he moved to So Cal to work for K-Swiss. Sorry to be late to the party, but I have been very busy with my volunteer and fundraising work.
Jim Yanoschik ; age 54; Murrieta, CA (1 hour north of San Diego, CA); 6th IMCDA; 24th IM overall.
My goal is to win the Janus Charity Challenge as the top fundraiser. My charity is Rotaplast International which sends surgical teams to third world countries to fix cleft lips and palates. I As far as the race, I just want to finish. My goal last year was to finish without losing my stomach contents. I accomplished that goal!!
YANO in da haus! Folks, YANO is being modest! The guy is the most kick ass fundraiser on the face of the planet! He has re-written the book for us mere mortals that do fund raising. First met YANO at IMCDA '06 when I raised like $28,000 for my charity to take 4th place. That year he did over $500,000. Since then.......will let him tell you!
@Donna
There is a good podcast Coach Rich did regarding course. Readers Digest version is basically this:
1. There is one steep (short) climb going out to Higgins Point. Not even 1/2 mile! Much more gradual cominig back up from other side after turn around.
2. Once out to Hayden there are a couple short, steep pitches but the big hill (1.2 miles or so) is going up English Point Road to Lancaster. There are a couple false tops and you just have to get it done! 2nd time up this hill is at like 70 miles in though!
3. After the English Pt. Hill there are just nothing but rollers and almost no flat ground. Hard to maintain rythym though for every up there is a down.
4. After the left turn onto Hudlow Rd there is a pretty good climb as well. 2nd time up that hill is like at 90 miles in!
There is basically 20+ miles of rollers out in Hayden which x2 means there are 40 miles of rollers out there. Probably not a better course on the IM circuit that requires attention to the effort you are putting out! Easy course to burn matches early and pay the price on the run.
Goals- would like to beat my time of 13:10 from IMAZ last year (my first full IM).
I am in my third year of triathlons and would like to continue improving physically and mentally. My training schedule is often made difficult by the fact that I am an international airline pilot (often tired and time constrained). I welcome any and all recommendations!
Glenn - Hi (again). Just as a frame of reference, for goal setting, I've done both CDA and AZ the past two years. My times were CDA/AZ: 11:29/10:55; 11:42/10:56. My run and swim times were pretty much the same in all four races (1:10/4:05 +/-), and the differences were solely on the bike. I'll comment on "fitting things in" in the week 5 thread. As an MD - Obstetrician - who has at least one 24 hour shift each week, AND, living in the Pac NW, where rain is a real issue, shifting workouts to the time available is standard practice for me.
Al, those are great times and something for which I can strive (I completed my first IM last year in Arizona with a 13:10--my run, more like a jog, was 5:20). I hope to improve on the run and bike at IMCdA. Any suggestions?
