new batteries in powertap

Does anyone think weak batteries report incorrect data perodically before dying, or could it be simply the TAPER?

one week to race in france so before my last bike today i put new batteries in my powertap hub. the old batteries were not dead, just precaution as they are 1 year old. though every now and then i would say to myself even outloud come on no way that is x watts. anyhow, off i went this morning and i was hardly putting in effort and the power reported on my edge felt high based on my effort. similar routes and all.

I'm only getting 6 months out of my G3 PowerTap battery, but the readings are spot on until the instant the battery keels over...then power goes straight to zero!
