Hacking the Heck out of my Di2 on my P5

Continuing my tradition of living dangerously, I decided to solve my shifting issues by taking matters into my own hands....  I am proud of myself for doing this a full 28 days before IMCDA.  Usually, I do this kinda stuff the week of....

  • Awesome job Dino and very clean looking! You will be very happy you took the leap and did the hack!

Bonus points because it looks so "Pro"!
  • I couldn't make it to the first photograph before giving up in total confusion. I was reminded of Natascha Badmann riding in Kona with no base bar, just brakes on her aerobars.
  • I still can't believe Cervelo wasn't able to figure out how to make the Di2 "brifters" work with those Magura brakes. F'n stupid if you ask me. I wouldn't buy that bike (which is all kinds of awesome) until they figured that out.
  • I am on your team, Bob. I am still kinda of dazzled that I needed to do this in the first place, but SO glad I did.

The thing that is weird to me is that Shimano doesn't make a set of buttons like I made. You should have the flexibility to to put a shifter button ANYWHERE you want it. Why make electronic buttons just to put them where mechanicals ones go? While I am it... Why have wires? What about bluetooth? Remote buttons. Shift from your phone. Whatever!

If I want to put a button under my seat so I can adjust my junk while I shift, I should be able to that! image

So, you can blame Cervelo, or you can look at what Shimano is offering builders. I do thank Cervelo for making the 5-junction box standard. They built it to hack it. The required 3 junction is surely slightly cheaper....
