Starting my 8 week marathon hack. 16 miles in 2:14, mix of LRP, MP, and TP. Character building 52F, constant drizzle - exactly the same weather in which I ran 15 miles (3 x 5) a week earlier @ American Zofingen. I've found wearing Calf compression socks makes the run *feel* better, although no faster. So I bought a pair of CEP calf compression sleeves during this weekend's sale @ tri-sports, and will continue wearing them in long runs and races this year. Again, not expecting performance improvement, just more comfort, and reduction of soreness the next day.
Not sure how much the CEP socks cost you but round here they are expensive, and for me CEP and SLS aren't all that comfortable on my toes for my big feet. On a tip from some good local runners, I went to my local home health supply store and bought a pair of (off the shelf) Sig Varis compression dress socks (non-ribbed) which are hands down the most comfortable compression socks I own. I have worn them in three marathons and countless training runs. They are two years old and look and feel as good as new. And they cost 20 bucks ($CDN).
Ugh. Not sure if it was the sudden rise in temp and humidity or tuesday's FTP test/ride but last nights long run was H A R D. 20k in 1:50 with 10' z1, 15' Z2, 25' Z3. First time in a long time I have struggled to stay within the prescribed zones. When is that taper gonna start?
