HIM Advanced Week 19... just a little bit more advice needed!

Hey Coach P -

A couple of Q's for you... .I didn't do a long ride last Saturday since I was still getting over my bronchitis, so I opted to FTP test outdoors instead since I really, really needed that number for race day.  Ideally, I would have been able to test earlier in the week and do the RR ride on Saturday as scheduled. So, I am wondering if it would be a stupid idea to do a RR ride tomorrow morning on the E-man course, with short, easy transition run?

Also, the broken toe is feeling much better.  I have run on it twice this week - once for about 10 minutes, and today for about 30 minutes.  It feels pretty good, but is still just a bit sore.  I am super nervous about not having another longish run before race day, but want to get your thoughts on that.  Is it better to just do my run pool-running again, do a 60-minute run as scheduled, or try to push just a little more distance out of the run (I'm guessing the latter is a stupid idea). I am thinking that my foot can probably handle 60 minutes on the road, but would love advice.

I'd appreciate your thoughts on the schedule for the rest of my week.  Here is what is scheduled:

Thurs - "long" run - 60 minutes

Fri - RR swim, run

Sat - 150min ride

Sun - rest

My proposed switch-up to enable me to do the RR ride:

Thurs: RR ride, short transition

Fri: RR swim, skip the run

Sat: 60 minute run

Sun: rest

Thoughts? Thank you!!

  • You can RR for sure, but only a 15' run thanks!! Focus on BEST NUTRITION and VI please!!! No need to run more on it…the more you run now the more you inhibit final stages of recovery which matters more!!! No fitness to be gained here, only confidence and I can give you that next week!!! image I like your Plan B, but I wouldn't run longer than 40' on a soft even surface if possible…time to start thinking fluids, and bike pacing!!!! image
  • ok, great. That sounds like a great plan. Thanks coach!
