Di2 11 Speed

Getting my new bike next Monday.  Shop asked whether I want the 9071 Dura Ace TT shifters or theR671 TT shifter set.  Is there some advantage of the R671?  Hoping to hear from JW or Dino or anyone else.  Thanks.

  • I understand 9071 have 1-button and the R671 have 2. I would assume the 2-button gives me more options.
  • I have the 2-button and they work the same way as traditional TT shifters. On the right there are 2 buttons so you can upshift or downshift the RD. On the left, the 2 buttons allow you to upshift or downshift the FD. The reality is that 90% of the shifts you do are on the RD. And 95% of the shifts you do while in the aerobars are for the RD. I think this is why Shimano came out with the new 1-button shifters. The button is on the top and would likely be a little bit more ergonomic to press. And you can program them anyway you like, but I presume most people will have something like downshift the RD on the right and upshift the RD on the left. And they figure if they're shifting the FD, they,yr probably on the bullhorns anyways since they likely just started or ended a climb, or they are approaching a traffic light or stop sign. I'm assuming of course that your bike has shifters on the bullhorns...

I don't have any issues pressing any of those shifter buttons while in the aerobars and I don't even need to move any part of my body, hand, or arm with the exception of 1 finger. So if it were me doing it over again, I'd still go with the R671 and keep the shifting of the FD on the bars as well.

But keep in mind when you read my opinion above that I always hated the old stupid Apple computer 1-button mouse and strongly preferred the PC version with 2 buttons and a scroll wheel... And I also hate the fact that my iPad only has 1 button... So your personal preferences should really be your guide.
  • Thanks for your input John. Sometimes the biggest issues are decisions made difficult because we have too many options.
  • What John said. The P5 does not come standard with bullhorn shifting, so every bike got the 671's or else you could not change the front. My advice is go 671. You have more choices. The benefit of electronic is shifting from anywhere. Why purchase a limiter?
  • Thanks a lot guys. 671 it is.
