Coach R

Scheduled to start HIM plan on June 10th for a race on September 8th.  Was wondering if it would be okay to load up the get faster plan for 6 weeks followed by HIM plan for 6 weeks.  Wanted to use the first 6 weeks to work on getting stronger and faster.  Thanks

  • I don't think 6wks of the HIM plan is enough, especially considering the difference between the lengths of the GF and HIM long runs. 4wks GF / 8wks HIM, or 3/9 would be better.
  • Coach. Changing things up again. Instead of doing 2 HIM distance races I am doing 1 IM distance race on September 21. I'm coming off a three week transition following IM texas. Here is what I'm thinking. First 4-6 weeks: Bike FTP work with slow gradual build in distance with FTP work. Run - slow distance build with some short interval work after about 3-4 weeks. Swim Short speed work. for the remaining 8-9 weeks work on everything as per plan. I was thinking of emphasizing the bike in the beginning while I gradually build up run fitness/endurance. Just not sure my running legs are ready to jump back into speed work. Thoughts
  • Coach disregard previous message. I'm just gonna load up IM plan and adjust run accordingly

Or you could do the GF plan for a few weeks then load up the IM plan when you're 12wks out from your race.
