T1 setup

OK guys,

I have been working on T1 (and T2) for my upcoming sprints.  I see guys that clip their shoes onto the pedals and then run their bike out of T1 and slide in their shoes as they ride off.  I am 6' 4" and have size 14 feet.  if I try to do this, the shoes catch on the ground and make it essentially impossible to push the bike. Same thing if I try to slip out of the shoes coming into T2...Shoe drag, catch, face plant.

I have Look cleats which are challenging to run with in and out of transition but I have been putting on my shoes and running in and out.

My question is ... is there a better way?  I am trying to keep transition time short for the sprints as much as possible.

Thanks

  • What Al said. Most Tri shoes have a little loop on the back that you can string that rubber band through. Works great. Just be prepared for the SNAP on the back of your calf when it finally goes. BTW, I'm 5'2", have size 5.5 shoes, and it's a problem for me too- so don't worry, it's not just you!
  • In official WTC-branded Ironman races, you cannot have your shoes on your bike. Only the pros can do that.

I think for any other race and distance, WTC will let you, but don't quote me on that. Each race other than WTC, has their own set of rules regarding this, be sure to check if you don't know for sure.
