2014 Race Schedule

I thought I had figured out my 2014 schedule but now i'm not sure  Was planning on doing IM Texas (May) and IMMT (Aug).  Both of these races are EN focus events.  Wanted to go back to Texas despite the heat and humidity.  Problem with Texas is it really wipes out any racing until late June early July.  Couple of races that wanted to do locally are Columbia (oly) and Eagleman are in May and June.  Thought about Florida and Arizona but the idea of racing in November is not that appealing.  So was thinking that maybe this would be the schedule:  Columbia (May), Eagleman (June)  IMMT (Aug) and possibly IM NC (Sept). • Yes to all of the above. image. If i iron next year. I am thinking texas. Then tremblant or canada. Or november ariz/flor/cozumel. So three month or six month interval. Personally, while iron focused, i am not interested in shorter races. Some year i hope to just half focus.
  • Is IMNC officially on the books? That plan looks fine to me- Eagleman is a little close to IMMT (about 11 weeks out) but it's doable. Another option to consider would be the 70.3 in Raleigh a week or two earlier than Eagleman. IMTX is a tough race to train for as someone living in the mid atlantic (as I'm sure you already learned!).
  • @Robin. I do like the idea of returning to Texas. Really enjoyed the venue. with the exception of the heat and humidity it is my kind of course. The idea of going back to Texas and beating you this time is also somewhat appealing image sorry couldn't resist a little smack talk image

@Nemo. NC is not official as of yet. Couldn't justify a NC 70.3 when one is about an 1 1/2 hours away.
  • Well, if IMNC does happen, I'm pulling for the mountains vs the beach!
  • @ John - Assuming IMNC gets it and it is early Sep, that is too close to IMMT to pull off a respectable double...could be only 3 to 4 weeks apart. Assuming WTC makes the announcement next month as they said they would, then you have plenty of time to make a decision. I want to do the 25th Annual Vineman next year but will defer to IMNC if they throw more than the typical 50 Kona slots at it. I'm hoping they will call it the US Championship like when they announced IMNY and give it 75 to 100. That will get me there for sure. Anyway, you should do Eagleman and IMNC ... fill the rest of the season with spints and olympics.

@ Nemo - I am pulling for whichever is later in the season and likely to have decent weather. Why is WTC willing to have IM70.3s in October but not a single IM besides Kona in October? It's not like Kona is televised live.
  • @Paul. Didn;t really pay attention to dates while typing. Agree IMMT and possibly IMNC would be to close together. So the question is do I want to go back to Texas and do IM Texas and IMNC or Eagleman, and IMNC. Would hate to hang all my eggs on the IMNC and have them cancel it after about 2-3 months. That happened with IM 70.3 national harbour. Decisions, decisions decisions

If WTC takes your money, short of an act of God or War, they're not going to cancel an IM.
  • John.     Bring it !   image

You've got huge potential so we will be out there pushing each other.

  • I agree with Al...they are not going to cancel it. National Harbor was a fluke based on a race management company that screwed up the Chocolate Run at the same location (and if I recall correctly, they went belly up). WTC pulled the plug in advance rather than go through with a likely fiasco. That happened at the Miami 70.3 first year, and WTC brought in their own race management team the 2nd year to fix it. But WTC is much much more careful about the full IM distance.

I would do Eagleman (assuming you like drafting and a shortage of port-a-potties) and IMNC pending next month's announcement. Speaking of National Harbor, I flew right over it on approach to DCA today. It wasn't built when I last lived here so it was pretty amazing to see out my window.
