At the pool, this morning, I spoke to a guy who is a local race director (Glenwood Springs Tri) who just did the HITS HIM @ Grand Junction. He gave the race thumbs up for the ITU style transition area, where everyone gets a separate bike stand, bucket, and mat, and the swag bag. Race fee was $75. He said he couldn't imagine putting the swag bag together for $75 as an RD, much less the rest of the support. H e did comment on the small # of racers.
Unless this HITS race is different -(didn't check their website -you should, they post schedule) they do 1/2IM and IM on SAT then all the others SUN. The Fist HITS I did was '12 Nappa and that was reversed -they changed the days last year to have the big awards ceremony SUN after the OLYs get done and its still daylight
I've done Nappa '12, '13 and Lake Havasu '13 all at 70.3. They get bigger and better (it seems) with each passing year. Support and crowds were OK for the 70.3 but seemed to thin out for the Full. That will likely change as #s go up.

Melanie,
I have not done one of these races but the numbers for all the race disciplines are not large especially when you get to the half and full distances.
