Patriot: What time to get to race

To those of you who have done Patriot:

Venue opens @5; mandatory pre-race meeting is at 6:30.  Race start is 0700, my wave is 0720.

My posse is doing packet pick-up in Boston today and planning a 6AM arrival at Cathedral Camp.

I was thinking packet pick-up on race morning and arriving at 5:15AM.

Now I have to decide - commute on my own or get the packet today and plan on a 6AM arrival with the posse.

Recommendations?  Is parking at Cathedral Camp relatively efficient at 0600 or will it be a cluster (back-up, waiting, etc.,.)

Thanks!

  • I would guess that either would work. We had a couple people on our Charity Team get lost last yr and literally showed up at 6:31AM and then picked up their packets and still made their starts. I don't recommend this as they were totally rushed and flustered. But Parking is right next to Transition/check-in. The Check-in process is smooth and painless. If you don't get nervous easily, I'd recommend going with your crew, but try to convince them to get there at like 5:50AM instead of 6:00AM. And have all of your stuff ready to setup your T-spot and you should be fine. You could even pump your bike tires before you leave home so you can save that time/hassle after you show up at the race site. It's a great race! Good Luck!
  • Thanks, John. Planning packet pick-up tonight and a 5:45 arrival. Really looking forward to the race - I'll post a report I'm sure. Best!
