Will the FAA confiscate my Quarq?

probably going to use TriBikeTransport for IMMoo.  We have discounts at RaceDay Transport but doesn't look like they're going to Madison.

would have to drop bike off 2-3 early and was wondering if I could/should keep my cranks after the dropoff so that I can ride my roadie without having to replace the BB to accept the cranks that I had before I started riding with the Quarq.

my concern is that the security would not dig an oversized Ninja Star in my carryon backpack when boarding the flight?

anyone have any experience with this?

  • No carry on experience.         Yes probably will be an issue.     put in your checked luggage?
  • I guess if you're not sure, you are better off not risking anything. I'd put it in my checked bags or even better, just take the bike with me on the plane. Having done that a few times now, I'd definitely recommend that. Bike check fees are lower than TBT, and you can use your bike whenever you want.
  • Coming back from IMMT this year, I'll be bringing my quarq back in my checked bag, while my bike comes back via tribike transport. the plan (we'll see how it works out) is to do a century ride the following Saturday on my roadie (shared quarq btwn both my bikes too).
  • @Scott- wish u were doing that sooner. That's too close to Wisconsin for me to see how it goes for you. Crap. But, good luck to ya!
  • I'd definitely check it. Last week I forgot my rolling stick was in my backpack, and security made me check it :|

I joked with the TSA guy what he thought I was going to do with it, give everyone a massage?

So no go to a ninja star.
  • DC Rainmaker had a problem with a single crank arm (Stages PM) due to the length, so I'd guess that they wouldn't be OK with a whole crankset in carry-on.
