Cool...I'm definitely in for the Tardiz. I'd been hesitating to take the plunge but at that price, I can't really say no. P - any idea when they'll be available?
I have a Lazer Tardiz. Only two sizes, sm/med and L/XL Hard to imagine the male head the L/XL won't fit. The adjustment system has a LOT of range in it. Here's a pic. My pinkie is on the adjustment knob, index finger IN the hole for pouring water (it can be covered with a piece of form fitting rubber if not needed). The adjustment band encircles your head like a bandana tied 1 CM above your eyebrows, around to 1.5 cm above the ears.If you'd like other pix, let me know; I've got a Spiuk also and can show them side by side.
Al - Thanks so much for the info and the pics. I think I'll take a leap of faith here that the L/XL will fit me, so I'm definitely down on the group buy. So +1 on wanting to hear more deets on that when available.
Now to a Fred'ly question: Has anyone ever had their aero helmet done up with a custom paint job? I've seen several at races that have looked pretty good. My question is less about style and more about warnings/problems in terms of damaging the aeroness of the helmet with a custom paint job. For instance, would the painter have to apply some kind of finish coat/epoxy/whatever in order to ensure that airflow remained good? Would one have to worry about the painter messing up the dimples overpainting?

I'm pretty excited, at the same point a little down, because my tri-bike budget got totally eaten up with water damage repairs this year but a friend is going to lend me a Cervelo P2 (non-carbon) for the whole year. So I get to race a spiffier bike along with the spiffy helmet. If nothing else, having gear shifters on the aero bars will be oh-so-helpful for IM-Moo. Anyway, just wanted to share that little bit of joy with folks who might care - my girlfriend just rolls her eyes when I talk about it, although that might be because of the giddy little boy enthusiasm voice I use, who knows.
I would like to try one of the Rudy Project Wingspans but they are always sold out. Trevior, is it that much smaller than the SPuik and the Lazer? I have a Spuik but really wouldnt wear it if it wasnt for the aero advantage.
Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been able to do the measurements and photoshoot on the Wingspan yet, weekday nights are kind of tight as always. The factory specs in terms of sizing on it are: UNISIZE 54-59cm 21.25"-23.2".
When I get home tonight I'll do some measurements of my own, as well as of my own head and comparison to the only other helmet I have in my house right now, my Giro road helmet. I unfortunately don't know how it compares in fit to either the Tardiz or the Spiuk as I have never worn either, the only comparison I can really do is to a size M Giro Advantage 2, but that is more anecdotal since I no longer have that helmet to do direct measurements against. In general though, I found the Giro more snug, especially over the ears, which is of course better for aero but not so great for me trying to get it on in transition.
As far as getting one, I don't know about retail anymore, but there were quite a few people selling them brand new in the classifieds on Slowtwitch a month or two back, a lot of people got in on the promotional order and of course there were some fit issues. Anyway, more details to come tonight.
Ordered mine but forgot to put the EN discount code in the PayPal comments block - SO DON'T FORGET TO DO THAT!!! I sent an email to them so hopefully they'll bless my order and send me it at the EN price.

I'm hoping a small is going to fit my noggin as I wear a medium Bell Sweep (measures 55-59cm) and have lots of room to clamp the thing to my head... Guess we'll find out soon enough!
@Tavis- please let us know how it fits you when you receive the helmet. I have a LG Chrono Small (52-56cm) and it was the only thing I could find at the time small enough to fit my head. I don't know that I need a new helmet- but that cooling vent sure would be nice if I ever got a lottery slot to Kona!
@Nemo - Will do for sure! I actually just sent an email to Todd to see what he thought about the sizing. Since I'm in the office, I didn't have any measuring tape so I wrapped an ethernet cable around my head and measured the resulting length with a ruler... guys in the office think I'm nuts...
Anyway, I've got a 57.5cm noggin which is exactly in between the upper limit of the small and the lower limit of the large...grrr... i'll let you know what he thinks.
Hi All, not sure if anyone is still interested in the Wingspan or if everyone is sold on the Tardiz, but regardless as promised here is my basement-cellphone-wingspan-photoshoot.
First up we just have a general side by side with a size M Giro road helmet for reference.
Next, the interior of both helmets, note the size adjustment knob of the Rudy at the rear and the rear tail cover which is removable but in place for this picture.
Next, the front view with no vent cover on. The helmet can be configured in 3 ways, the time trial vent cover, the mesh triathlon vent cover, or just no vent cover at all for maximum airflow.
In the last picture you can see the pretty massive vents in the rear of the helmet, here is a better view, note you can see right through out the front vents.
And last but not least, the awkward self shot frontal view of me in the helmet with the time trial vent cover on.
Again the official size is Small-Medium UNISIZE 54-59cm, 21.25"-23.2" and I measured my head at 56cm. Playing with the adjustment knob at the back, the helmet definitely feels like it goes quite a bit smaller than my head, and while it is certainly loose on me at it's biggest size, it's not a huge helmet. I've tried on a few size L helmets that felt like they swallowed my head, this definitely would be a snug fit for someone who needs a size L.
Hi folks - I contacted BikeFit direct for a shipping quote to UK, its $26 - info for fellow EU/Intl peeps. Typically, the £ sterling rate has got hammered again so I need to cost this up!
@trevor - thanks for the pics - the Rudy seems to be even more vented than the Lazer, interesting one.
Just ordered mine. This was not on my radar to buy.Just wasn't thinking about it. But one thing I have seen in my 2 years in da haus- great deals on gear! Thanks guys!
The last few month I have been looking into aero helmets. A couple weeks ago I was in Tucson and stopped into the TriSports.com store. I got a chance to try on the Lazer Tardiz. I had decided to go with that one but had not pulled the trigger. I just ordered mine from TTBike fit. Being part of EN sure has its perks. I went with the S/M, when I tried them on in the store they both fit fine (my head is around 56cm) the only difference on the L/XL was the side stuck out a little more than I liked. Other than that with the adjustable head band they fit great.

I guess I should get one of these as well. With my ftp, I need all the free speed I can get. Might get some smiles from the young guys as they fly by in races, but at least I'm still trying at 60. Anyone know how long the discount lasts?

I just received my Rudy Project Wingspan TT.
New to aerolids but used it today for a HIM race rehearsal and loved it - I picked up with a 55% off deal for $135.
Alright! Now we can have a Darth Vader competition between you and Greg Van!
How did everyone fare in the 2010 season with their Lazer Tardiz helmets? Like them, don't like them?
It didn't slow me down compared to my Spiuk from the previous two years.
