Core Diet Nutrition Seminar Product Question
While watching the online seminar with Jesse Kropelnicki it became apparent he does not a fan of Hammer products. I'm not here to debate their useful or effectiveness. I would like to know what ingredients he is referring to in HEED that is artificial? I see Xylitol and Stevia. He even mentions that what ever the ingredient is you can find it in some laxatives. Any Idea????

Importantly, I used Hammer Products to a 10:06 finish at a hot IMAZ 2011 and never had any issues with cramping, digestion, etc from the low sodium. I did 2 concentrated bottles of Perpeteum on the bike, Hammer Gel on both bike and run, and endurolytes on the run.. Later in the race I did supplement with coke.
you answered your own question. Xylitol and stevia. And Xylitol can have laxative properties.
To be clear I am neither pro or con Hammer. Just like all brands they have some good and some not so good. I tend to use a mixture of all different types. What peaked my interest was the comment that they use artificial sweeteners. Several years ago I made a conscious decision to avoid all A.S. and part of that decision is what led me to Hammer. It even states on all their product packaging that the product contains no GMO, A.S. or fad ingredients. So to hear that gave me pause to find out more.
@Dan You are correct I did answer my own question as it pertains to the second part. What are the ingredients that could be considered a laxative? The only two listed that were sweeteners were the Xylitol and Stevia hence why I listed them. My main question was which A.S was he referring to since the two I mentioned are not artificial. In addition salt water its self is considered a laxative as well so it seems any product that contains sodium and is mixed with water could fall under his statement. Add in the fact that he faults Hammer for being useless because of the low sodium per serving would make it less of a laxative when compared to the high sodium products he recommends. This is the problem with being a novice in the nutrition arena. trying to make sense of it all.
After a little more research into the Hammer side of the story and why the low content per serving. It seems to be their approach, right or wrong, on how to handle replacement and the rate at which it can occur. Their knowledge base has a pretty large explanation of the science behind their theory.
