Nemo's IMMT Wk 14 run alternative

As you guys know, I'm on the injured list and plan to run/walk IMMT.  Just to get you up to speed- I'm currently able to do a 2 hour "long run" as a run/walk (1 minute run/ 3 minute walk) without further injury, swelling, or impacting my other workouts (YAY!).

For 4th of July weekend Joe and I will be heading to the mountains (Boone, NC) to do some long hiking (thanks P for the suggestion as a way to build walk fitness).  It would be a great place to ride as well (as you know), but I don't think Joe would be too keen on me taking off for a 4 hour ride alone while we are there.  So, the plan for the weekend looks something like this:

Thursday 7/4:  Travel day.  I can likely get in a longish ride this morning before we leave

Friday 7/5 & Saturday 7/6:  Long Hikes of 3-4 hours each day.  There is some potential for an open water swim here too- I need to do more research though.

Sunday:  Travel day.  We'll probably do a short hike that morning, shower up, then drive home.

I MIGHT be able to convince Joe to do a little riding with me after our hikes, but it would be recovery riding. The question is, does this plan look OK and if so, should I alter the Mon-Wed plan at all to accomodate the above?  Maybe ride on Monday or Tuesday?  As a side note (in case this factors into the decision), I'm heading to VA/MD this weekend to do two days of riding in the hills (including a ride along Shenendoah National Park).  This flat lander has to get some hill practice.

  • @Nemo, great stuff here. I suggest you do the Wed int ride on Tuesday, then your longish ride on Thurs. Monday is probably off after this weekend...Wed can be a swim day to keep that rolling...but while on the road, just hike it out. Recover right, with your feet up (or in ice cold water) with a great beverage. The cycling adds too much to the mix, both logistically but also given what you are doing this weekend....I want pics!!!!
  • Great, thanks so much Patrick for helping me think through a plan that works. I'll be sure to take lots of pics!
