Esprit Ironman?

Has anyone in da haus done this race? It's pretty cool; held on an island by Montreal, on a Formula One track. The swim is in the Olympic rowing basin then the bike is 42(!) laps on glass smooth race car pavement.

Only 200 racers, a vast, and for me, welcome break from the jostling throngs at "official" IM events.

A mid-September date also works well for me after chasing dwindling daylight prepping for IM Florida.

I'd love to hear your input.

  • My friend Heidi, who used to be a member here, has done it twice--both times full IMs. She LOVES it. She says it's quite the hip event in the area, with a lot of support. The HIM has lots of people entered, the IM not so many. She's a 15+ hour finisher so she was out there in the dark kind of alone for a long time--and she still had nothing to say but good things about it. I know it's second hand info, but I trust her judgement.

I think I'll do the HIM in 2011--a getaway combined with a race. Sounds great (and no hills. image)

  • I dunno, I'm pretty sure I'd loose count of my laps!!! Sounds far too mentally challenging for me! HA!

It's so interesting. I LOVE loops. I totally don't mind repetition. The thought of just going mindless appeals to me. Boring--yes, but I can totally see myself doing it. image

  • One of the guys from my Tri Group has done it every year for the last several years and also raves about it.

  • Is there a run leg? It sounds interesting.
  • @Michele: yup, it's a full IM. The run is 9 loops, on a different track than the bike. Flat!
  • Interesting.... Thanks Bill
