2013 IMLake Placid Race Update

Greetings all:

Are you excited to race or what????!!!  We’ve been working on some great stuff for the weekend, but there are still a few hoops for you to jump through!

Here are the details:

TEAM DINNER RSVPs DUE NOW!

Date:  Thursday, July 25th

Time: 6:00 PM

Place:  Conference Center of Lake Placid

Cost:  $26.50 per person (kids/adults)

Address:  2608 Main Street, Lake Placid

IMPORTANT:

  1. Please follow this link to the Team Calendar page to pay and reserve your spot for the team dinner.  PrePay via Paypal is preferred and gets priority!  RSVP’s after Monday, July 15th at 12:00 NOON or at the door will be honored IF there is space available.  Sorry if this seems harsh but we need a confirmed headcount to the caterer.

  2. Would you rather pay by check? No problem!  Simply RSVP via email to Brenda (brenda@endurancenation.us) by Monday at 12:00 NOON and she will get you dialed in and confirmed.

  3. Then head over to the 2013 EN Team Event Spreadsheet (Placid Tab) and confirm the number of folks and that you have paid in the YELLOW columns H through N.

  4. >> Please Note -- An RSVP on spreadsheet alone does not confirm your attendance.  Please see bullets 1 and 2 above for confirmation procedures.  :-)

  • Adirondack salad w/ cranberries, walnuts, English cucumbers, grape tomatoes w/ balsamic vinaigrette.

  • Penne pasta w/ roasted tomato sauce

  • Julienne grilled chicken breasts

We are working out the details on the kids menu (last year we had hot dogs and chicken fingers in addition to the adult menu).

Additional Info:

Conference Center is located to the right of the Speed skating Oval / Transition Area (when looking at the oval from Main Street) and attached, to the right of the hockey rink.

Use the door to the right of the building that says CONFERENCE CENTER – VISITORS BUREAU. Go up the stairs and our room will be to the right. Signs will be posted.

WEDNESDAY, 24th of July:

EN Race Director, Brenda Ross, will be setting up GroupMe for race week communications.  GroupMe can be used with a smartphone or any phone that has text messaging capabilities.  Be on the lookout for your addition to GroupMe sometime Wednesday midday. You can opt in / out of GroupMe in the 2013 EN Team Event Spreadsheet (Placid Tab).

*** More about GroupMe at the bottom of this note.

FRIDAY, 26th of JULY:

7:30 a.m. - EN Team Swim - Meet at the lifeguard house, to the right of the entry way (when looking at the building from the beach), on the stone deck.  Coffee to follow (location TBA).

10:00 a.m. – EN Four Keys to Long Course Triathlon Talk. This will take place at the Palace Theater on Main Street. Coach Patrick & Coach Rich will be sharing their wisdom with all, followed by a showing of Triathlon: Through the Eyes of the Elite -- a documentary of the the athletes making the 2012 US Olympic triathlon team. Please RSVP here.

5:30 p.m. – The WTC Welcome Athletes Dinner  - See official website.

FIRST TIMERS: We recommend this event for everyone wishing to soak it all in > Food is ok - atmosphere is exciting.  Think of an Ironman-style Pep Rally!  Athletes are admitted w/ their wristbands.  Friends & family need to purchase tickets, which will be available at Packet Pick-up and Registration (in the LP High School, behind the Speed skating Oval).  This dinner has sold out in the past - so I recommend getting tickets early.

The Mandatory Athlete Race Briefing follows dinner at the same location.

SATURDAY, 27th of JULY:

7:00 am -- INFORMAL Team Breakfast @ The Breakfast Club (2490 Main St, Lake Placid)

This is first come, first serve seating...so be there early so we can all sit down!!

SUNDAY, 28th of JULY:

Post-race, there will be an informal gathering at the Lake Placid Pub & Brewery, starting at 9 p.m. - located across the street from the swim start.  You will ride and run past the Brew Pub several times during the day - after you cross the finish line, it is time to enjoy the food & beer you smelled repeatedly throughout the day!

MONDAY, 28th of JULY:

8:00 - 10:00am  Breakfast Buffet @ Northwoods Inn on Main Street for those who can make it...just drop in and say HI!

Thanks for reading!  We look forward to meeting you all!

Regards,

Brenda Ross, Race Director

What is GroupMe?

At its core, GroupMe is free group messaging for your real life network. It’s sort of like a private chat room over SMS, or reply-all text messaging.

When you start a GroupMe, we give it a unique phone number. When you send a text message to a GroupMe number, that message is sent instantly to everyone in the group. We put the sender's names before each message, so it sort of like an instant chat room. All of the texts below, for example, were sent to and received from a unique phone number.  It's that easy!

Steve: Hi everyone!

Max: Hey! Where are we meeting tonight again?

Kyle: I think we were going to meet at Emily's place?

Emily: That's fine. Just give me a few minutes to clean up.

Apps for Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry and iPhone.  Also works for feature phones with simple text.

FEES: The APP itself is free....but Carriers rates may apply.
