Tri shorts that aren't DSS??

Unfortuneately, my last pair of DSS Forza shorts are torn beyond repair.  I tried the new Forzas and Riviera, and there is not a size that fits.  So, I need to find something else.  I haven't seen a shorts thread in a while, so I thought I'd ask what else people like for long course races.  Thanks

  • the new TYR shorts have a nice pad for longer distance tri riding.
  • thanks Mike - do you remember the model??
  • Being that DeSoto shorts/bibs are the only brand that works for me, what exactly are the fit issues ?
  • I too am looking for a change...

Wore the Forza Riviera (love that Float Pad) at my last HIM and was chaffed beyond words from the stitching. Funny that I didn't have that issue in another HIM the year prior.

So I need to find a comfy short for IMFL and will keep my eyes on the thread!
  • Robin - I've had the Forzas since they started making them and the large always fit fine. Not the large are way too small - can't even get them pulled up over my legs. The XL is too long - the band on the bottom goes over part of my knee. My 3 paris of older forzas didn't have the band on the bottom. I think when DSS added the band, they just tacked it on to the bottom. For most people that's probably fine. But it won't work for me. I still think they are great - just hope I can find something that works as well for me.
  • I love my desotos! Clothing-wise, once I find a brand I like I'm all in!
Started out 10 years ago with Louis garneaus, then moved onto Sugoi, until a few years ago when I switched to desoto.

I have four pairs of the forza tri shorts, and the non-compression "band" at the bottom also creeps up over my knee (my legs are short given my 6'1" frame). I took one pair of the shorts and cut the "band" off at the seam and am experimenting with those. So far so good!

I'll experiment with cutting the band off on my 400 mile cycling bibs next season (I have three pairs of those).
  • Scott - thanks, that would be an optioin. I've been wearing the DSS shorts since 2002, and was hoping to never have to change. The Carreras might be an option as well - they have a shorter inseam. I'll call customer service and see what they say about the cloth as compared to the forzas.
  • Bob.   so I guess the ones I like are the Riviera.   shorts and bibs with the float pad.    And the 300 mile bib for pure bike riding.      Think my body shape is changing.    having the reverse problem to you.     The larges are now too large.     I am now trying the medium in a short.   May be too small.      So I need a medium large.
