2014 IMLP Plan working around travel, work, etc.

Hi Coaches- It may seem a bit early to start figuring out my 2014 training plan but my work schedule pretty much dictates a very narrow window for racing.  My job has me working/traveling almost every weekend August-January/February and about every other weekend through April/May (but not traveling).  With that being said, I am targeting IMLP in 2014 and will need to train around some obstacles.  Next year I have a couple of family obligations that will minimize my ability to train from about 5/15-5/24 (Italy for family trip, 40th birthday for me and wife) and then a week in the Caribbean (likely 6/16-6/22 for 15th anniversary).  Don't get me wrong, I am very much looking forward to these trips but realize I am trying to eat my cake and keep it too.  My working plan has been to tweak the training schedule to kill it in the couple of weeks leading up to these trips and then run/possibly swim some in Italy (not so much as to piss my wife off) and run and open water swim as much as possible in the Caribbean with a potential spin thrown in here and there (again, not enough to cause anniversary issues).  So, what do you think?  Misison impossible or is there a reasonable hope I can take this approach without getting totally derailed?  Also, if it matters I am planning on doing the NOLA 70.3 on 4/13 but don't see any issue getting ready for that one.  Thanks!

Ben

  • Yes, you'll be fine. It is what it is and you gotta do what you gotta do. The key is to run 3-5x/wk, no matter what
