Pee'ing on the bike

Ok, I have to admit, not only was I hesitant to post this topic, but wasn't quite sure where to post. Anyway, here we go:
Any advice for peeing on the bike? Not sure if its stage fright or that I just haven't mastered the technique, but I just can't get he flow going. I have a HIM in 1.5 weeks that may be a hot one. No chance I will take a pit stop, so I'm wondering if this is all mental or if there is "technique" involved. Hey, if I can't ask you guys....who can I ask!imageimage

  • look about 5 posts down. I had similar questions. I also hear not to wear socks and rinse excessively.
  • Brad - for me it 'necessity being the mother of invention' at IMLou a couple of years ago. It got to the point where I just could NOT wait any longer....it was affecting my ability to generate power and I seriously couldn't think of anything else.

For me, I waited until I was on a slight downhill or on a flat, shifted my hips to the left a little bit, and just "let go". All I had to do was just relax to get the flow started. Why shift to the left? To control the flow down my left leg away from the drive train, down my leg and out my shoe. Then, when all was said and done, I took one of my water bottles and gave myself a rinse and then got back to the race.

    Good luck.

  • Kar-Ming- didn't see your post, so thank you

Joe - that's what'll come down to, I'm sure. Although I see that the temps dropped by 20F over the last few days in N. Cal. It's hotter and more humid here in the NorthEast! The last week of training here is getting me ready.

    Thanks for the info guys!
  • Everyone has there own technique, and once you do it once, you'll be able to do it anytime. I like a flat or slight downhill section. I stay on my aerobars then lift my butt a few inches off my seat to remove the pressure and let it flow. Once it gets started, I actually resume pedaling while I continue to go, but this is all done as I'm hovering over the seat. It's better if you're going above 15 or 18 mph so it goes partially down your leg, then blows off into the abyss behind you. Good idea to be totally lubed up with glide or chamois cream before. and only do it in tri shorts, not bike shorts. When I get home, I soak my shoes in a bucket of water with some clorox in it. Good luck.
  • What about a poop? Any advice here? image

    Just kidding.....

For the record, I can't bring myself to do this either, but after missing an "11-handle" by three seconds, it could be a time saver at IMHoe....
