Opportunity knocks

So I've never owned a tri bike before but was presented this weekend with the opportunity to purchase a 2010 Cervelo P3C lightly ridden, Dura-ace components, with a cobb v-flow saddle.  I got him to do $1000.  He's letting me take it for a test ride for a day.  I know all the responses I will hear here are to buy because you can never have enough bikes etc.  But I want to know what everyone thinks, is this a good deal, should I grab it up, or wait to buy something newer?

  • I would say that is an excellent deal for a carbon Tri bike with Dura-ace. That same bike today is over $3000
  • As one of the Haus bike nerds, I'd say DEFINITELY buy that bike (assuming it hasn't been crashed with a cracked frame). That just sounds too good to be true, because that bike 'should' cost $2,000-2,400. You will not find a better bike anywhere close to that price. And the only real difference between a 2010 and a 2012 is the paint job... I have a 2008 P3 and it's in excellent condition still...

I'm supposed to put the disclaimer in that you need to make sure it fits you, but at that price, if it doesn't fit you could immediately flip it on eBay for a handsome profit...
  • I know the owner so know it hasn't been wrecked. The guy is really cash strapped and is a very very motivated seller. I'm excited and about to pull the trigger. Want to take it out tommorrow for a ride. It will be a slow leisure ride, since I am still recovering from my 100 mile run last weekend. image
  • Good Luck with your ride tomorrow. As long as the fit is good, that is a great deal for that price.
  • BUY!!!! I agree with John 100%.
  • That's a great buy. I have a 2011 P3C and I spent 3x that price. Your getting a steal. You could ride it next season and probably still get more for it than you paid if you choose to sell it.
  • Thanks for the advice everyone.  I pulled the trigger and got it!  Very excited.  Here is a picture, it doesn't have these wheels on it, but still looks fast!
