Scott Plasma Premium vs BMC TM01

Does anyone have either of these bikes and care to comment on them? I am particularly interested in ride quality, serviceability, and packability. And for the BMC, can you handle a cone turn?

  • I'm going to wait until the new Trek Speed Concept is unveiled and make a decision on that or the BMC TM01. I really, really like the look of the BMC. I heard it's pretty easy to service and maintain and you can pretty much run any bars you want. I also like the modular stem setup. The size M/L coordinates run pretty close to my size L Trek SC so it shouldn't take much to get it to fit correctly.

I wish I lived in England because Evans Cycles is currently selling the BMC TM01 for a 20% discount. Ultegra Di2 is $6K, Di2 is $10K (w/Zipp wheels) and the frameset is like $3K.

I love my Trek SC but it's a beast to maintain and service. I hope the new one is a bit easier to wrench.

I looked at the Scott Plasma Premium before I bought my SC back in early-2011. I hated the color scheme of the first model year plus I was sort of turned off by the wiring, exposed front brake and the lack of Di2 options the first year. I heard it's very slick in the tunnel.
  • Bob, unless the new SC changes its fit coordinates, it is not an appropriate bike for me. I can't find any tunnel tests on the BMC but Cervelo's senior R&D engineer came on ST and said the Scott was much faster. Also, the BMC has a 58 degree fork turn limit due to the bayonet forks. But the BMC numbers match me well. I am going to have to test ride it and see if I can negotiate a cone turn with it. I probably will wait until 2014 and may check out the new Blue Triad 2014.
  • Sounds like we may have similar fit. Big stack. Short reach. Per todd kenyon, for me, Cannondale slice, scott plasma, blue triad, Maybe spec shiv. Shiv an option ??? Seems very servicable and adjustable.
  • Robin, I am only 5' 8" tall, but apparently have more leg length than torso, so yes, big stack, small reach. The Shiv is an option as well as Kestral. However, we don't have a single Kestral dealer in Tampa Bay so I intend to toss that option.
