Getting back on track

Hi all,

I'm in the November OS group. I've been following the plan along, seeing very good gains in my biking fitness. However unfortunately due to a  family vacation, illness, and work, I have had many weeks (5) of not being able to train except very minimally.Logistics have made it impossible.

The question is - how to get back on track. According to the Nov OS plan I should be on week 17. However if I could back to the weeks I missed I should really be on ~ week 13 which is still in the middle of the VO2 work. I don't have any early races planned, so going back to week 13 would really be OK from a schedule point of view. But I'm not sure that getting right into VO2 work is a great idea after taking extended time off? Or perhaps it is better to re-start with Threshold work?

I have 1 more week where an intense work situation is really not going to allow me to train regularly. After that I should be able to get back onto the regular schedule. My current plan is to restart at week 12 (because week 14 is a test week and I want to get 2 weeks of work before that).

I just wanted the teams opinion on how to proceed from here.

  • Mike -
I personally would advise you to go back to the beginning of the OS, test your FTP and vDOT (if necessary) and run that cycle. That's the best / meatiest part of the schedule where you'll get the biggest bang for your buck. After 5 weeks, your body won't mind...

  • Thanks. I'm definitely disappointed that I likely lost all the good fitness I gained (increased FTP by 10% in 8 weeks), but sometimes life gets in the way image
Anyway, the good news is that I should be able to get back at it and regain some of the lost ground. And then some.
