TriDusty's Personal Macro Thread (where coach rich can kick me squarely in de nutz...)

Coach, Don't shoot me, but I did something stupid.  It will be awesomely epic and fun, but stupid all the same.  Okay, here goes.

I am doing IMLT on 9/22/13 - My first race at altitude and first IM on a course with some climbs (have done IMFL and IMAZ previously)

Last year I did the B2B Iron distance race as a race rehearsal for IMAZ as a relay and I did the swim and bike legs.  I had a good swim (1:04) and bike (5:25) sticking to my IMAZ pacing plans the entire day (biked IMAZ in 5:29).  Well, when I looked up the results for B2B I saw that the guy who won the clydesdale category (I'm 6'4" and 225 on race day) did it in 12:20.  That really got my competitive juices flowing because I could have walked that entire run and still won Clyde.

So here is what I did....  I signed up for the B2B full this year....  I want to win Clyde at this race.  I'll never win age group at an IM race (unless I trip all the small peeps when they pass me on the run)  So I want to win this race in my category.

My goals for Tahoe are to have a good race and not hurt myself too badly so I can race B2B which is exactly 5 weeks after Tahoe.  Basically I am treating Tahoe as a destination race and B2B as my "A" race that I want to really hammer.  I am currently loaded into the IM Advanced Plan on week 10 ending on Tahoe. Here are my questions:

  1. How should I race Tahoe from a bike power perspective?  normal (with the altitude adjustment guidance I know is forthcoming) or less?
  2. How should I plan to tackle the Tahoe run?  (if I need to walk portions of the race I am fine with that.  This is a destination race for me now, not a PR race)
  3. What should I do from a training perspective in the 5 weeks between Tahoe and B2B?
  4. How much beer do I need to buy you in Tahoe for committing to this stupid and inane plan?

Thanks Coach!

    1. How should I race Tahoe from a bike power perspective?  normal (with the altitude adjustment guidance I know is forthcoming) or less? Let me publish that power/altitude guidance and we'll go from there.
    2. How should I plan to tackle the Tahoe run?  (if I need to walk portions of the race I am fine with that.  This is a destination race for me now, not a PR race) The more you walk the less recovery you'll need after Tahoe.
    3. What should I do from a training perspective in the 5 weeks between Tahoe and B2B?   We'll talk about that when we get there.
    4. How much beer do I need to buy you in Tahoe for committing to this stupid and inane plan? I'll be on the moto so you'll probably get off pretty easy...this time

    Thanks Coach!
