Garmin 500 Mount Tabs Broken...
On my ride today I hear this little click after hitting a bump in the road, find it somewhat curious as it was a noise that I had never heard before. Less than 30 seconds later, riding along, looking down at garmin, hit another small seam in the road...watch garmin fly off of its factory mount off into the grass on the right side of the road. Turn back, pick it up, try to put back into the mount...nope not sticking. I look at the backside of the 500 and see that both mounting tabs had sheared off. In fact one is still in the mount.
I'm going to take to the Garmin store in chicago today to see what they might be able to do. Not too happy about the timing, I guess there never is good timing, but I'm heading out of town next week for some training, then a half ironman in 12 days and i'm kind of hoping I have a computer.
Anyone with any similar experiences, success with garmin?

David,
See this thread I made on ST a couple of years ago. Long story short is that Garmin fixed mine for free.

Bob- thanks for the link. so you are the GMAN, I wondered if that person was inside the Haus.... I called Garmin, they are going to replace under warranty free of charge. I learned that for those people who are crunched for time and need a unit (ie can't send one back and then wait for new one to arrive) they will ship out a refurbished model for $178. Then - old broken garmin gets put into box, shipped back and the $178 is fully credited as it was covered under warranty) Rather impressed with their customer service. Hopefully the new one will arrive next week as promised. Now until then, to figure out how to jury rig this thing in place so it 1) doesn't fall off and 2) it is still useable for training over the next week.
