Need help with my nutrition

Hello team!

I am doing rev3 cedar point full this sept and i emailed the RD re their nutrition on course. They are serving gatorade endurance.
I checked the nutritional facts and it says 50 cals 200 sodium and 14carbs.
Currently this is nutrition
Kirkland energy drink just and taste like gatorade

60mins 2 gatorade carbs 70 cals 240 sodium 510

:10 gu carbs 20 cals 100 sodium 40

:40 powerbar carbs 21 cals 125 sodium 75
I need to switch to gatorade to make my life easier and i need to train with it. If i substitute the kirkland with gatorade my carb in take an hour would drop to 69 vs 111. Calories down to 269 and sodium down to 505. These numbers are too far from the nutritionbaseline from the wiki.

I cant figure out whether i should drink 3 bottles in one hour or eat more powerbars or add gels to match themy baseline calorie. I need your experience and expertise! What should i do? I am 188lbs 5'11 for reference. Thanks team!

  • Jayson,

I am a big fan of Infinite. Custom blended for my needs. I started with a phone interview and was setup with a bike and run formula that was mostly good and over the past 3 years have tweaked it to my liking. I don't carry any chew-food on the bike and only take water on the course. No race day surprises and no last minute trials with new products.

50 cal is in 8 oz. A 24 oz bottle is 150 cal.

I wish they'd go back to Gatorade Endurance on course. Best pre-mixed drink, IMHO.

    Hey mike
If im doing this right does it mean that in one bottle theres 24oz and 150cals 600sodium and 42carbs?
If so then this works better for me! Thanks!

    Hey steve

I used to drink perpetuem but during IMLP i dropped my bottles and ruined my whole day! Im gonna eat/drink whatever they serve on the course. Thanks for the input!
  • Like Steve I use custom Infinit blends for both bike and run.

I never have to worry about what is on the course.
  • Big vote for living off the course.

    Your weight?

Are we sure the bottles are 24 oz, not 20 oz?

My guess is that most folks prefer Perform to Gat Endurance. Gat End hard to stomach for some. So get some and start practicing with it asap.

And Gat End different then regular gatorade. So do not use regular gatorade.

  • I enjoyed using the course nutrition much more than using my own. The only exception to this is the Gels I bring with me. My next 140.6 has Gatorade Pro as the on course nutrition so that's what I'm using right now. the Gatorade Pro Endurance Ready to Drink bottles are 24 oz. I'm pretty sure when you mix with the powder 24 oz gives you 150 Cal but on the actual ready to drink bottle it says its 160 cal. Not sure why the difference. I have two bottles at home that I will use for one of my bigger days.

"24oz and 150cals 600sodium and 42carbs" this sounds about right..

For Gels I really like the powerbar Gels. Way more sodium than what you get in a GU and NO vitamins. Vitamins can lead to upset stomach. I think each GU has 100% of your daily intake of vitamin C. If you take 10 GUs that's a lot of Vitamin C which is serving vertually no purpose for your race.

Taking in 3 bottles an hour is A LOT of drinking. Some people can do it, but that's a lot of fluid to intake. Last race (IMFL), I took down two 20 oz bottles of Perform an hour until I peed and then backed off a bit to around 1.5 bottles an hour.

    good luck
  • Yes, that's right.  You should be all set.

  • The last several years I used Infinit solely for bike nutrition. It was great, after some "break in" period where my stomach had to get used to it.

This year I've changed it up a bit and am going water (w/ Nuun) and Lara bars. So far it's been going great in training, and this weekend's RR#1 will definitely tell.
For the run I'll stick with my own gels in a flask, like I always do.

    Robin,

    I am 188lbs

I emailed the RD and their site also says this.  what it doesnt say is how big is the bottle image

This is Rev3 cedar point so they serve gatorade and I guess perform is only for ironman event.

    Hey Nate

    Thank you!

I am currently finishing up the last of my GUs then switching to powergels.  I actually just finish watching the core diet video explaining the uselessness of the vitamins in the race etc etc.  and it makes sense!

What is the downside of taking a lot of gatorade when at the same time you are also taking in the electrolytes?  Worst case scenario is urinating often?

where do I go about and do this?

Also, I just found out (i could be wrong) in my research is that Gatorade Endurance is not available in Canada.......  Can I train with powerrade, which also has almost the same nutritional facts, and switch to gatorade endurance (my aunt is coming from the states and told her to bring me a lot) closer to date?  I find that my stomach is tolerating the switch from kirkland drink last week to powerrade drinks this week!
  • Gatorade endruance tastes and settles in the stonach a lot different then powerade. Just get from amazon in powder form.

Anyone know where the recent coach video is?
